Hollywood hunk Ryan Gosling will play Ken in the Barbie movie by Greta Gerwig opposite Margot Robbie. The upcoming live-action rom-com based upon the famous toy line by Mattel is slated to premiere in July next year. And now, it incorporates a beefed-up, soaked in bleach and spray-tanned Ryan Gosling playing counterpart to Barbie.
The film, under heavy production since 2009 by Mattel and Warner Bros., had a few bumps on the way. It was initially supposed to go under development with Universal but creative differences sent it to Warner’s desk. Now, the film is under the direction of Greta Gerwig —you may remember her in Wes Anderson’s film Isle of Dogs.

Barbie, the film was announced at Cinemacon with a poster (seen above) of the lovely Margot Robbie —who’s also in the executive producer chair for the project— in the stellar role in a Pink Corvette. The Wolf of Walls Street actress says the part comes with a lot of baggage, but she’s eager to play it. Moreover, Hollywood hunk Ryan Gosling —La La Land, Blade Runner— will play her love interest and counterpart.
Is Ryan Gosling Fit To Play Ken In Barbie Movie, Or is He Too Old?
Now, for the criticism of it. Of all the actors out there that play a handsome young bachelor, did they really have to pick a 41-year-old dude to play Ken? For all that’s worth, KJ Apa from Riverdale could’ve gotten that role easily. He’s almost half of Gosling’s age, is as ripped, and has the material. And if you wanted to dye his hair blond, I’m sure he’s up for the part. Gosling is a great actor. But isn’t he a bit old to play Ken? In any case, Margot Robbie is timeless as a platinum blonde. She’ll make a perfect Barbie!
Barbie Release Date
Barbie will release in theaters on July 21, 2023. Firstly, the plot isn’t available as executive producer Margot Robbie, Tom Ackerley, Mattel Films, and Robbie Brenner have been very tight-lipped about it.
