With a bunch of Mini and Maxi challenges along with new queens from all over the UK, RuPaul’s Drag Race is making sure that its 5th season is more exciting than ever. After having all of the queens go through a special Pantomime challenge, Banksie was the one to be eliminated last week.
A show that brought BBC Three back to life, RuPaul’s Drag Race UK is a drag competition series inspired by its American counterpart. A bunch of drag queens are made to compete in challenges and tests, and the one that manages to impress the judges, including RuPaul himself, is given the title of UK’s Top Drag Queen along with many other rewards.
For this season, the winning Drag queen will be able to have a fully paid show of their own, giving them a chance to gain more fame and money. The 5th season of RuPaul’s Drag Race UK started with around 10 contestants.
The ones that sadly are no longer a part of this installment are Banksie, Miss Naomi Carter, and Alexis Saint-Pete. With tough challenges coming out of nowhere, the remaining queens will have to up their game if they want to take home the ultimate title.
Recap
After Carter is sent home in the last episode, the rest of the queens prepare for yet another day in RuPaul’s Drag Race. Just as they’re settling in, it’s time for the day’s Mini challenge, which was revealed to be the Paris Is Burning-inspired “Reading” which involves making hurtful yet hilarious insults about the other drag queens.
Everyone comes up with unique and funny insults, except for Cara Melle. The winner of the Mini challenge this time turns out to be Kate Buch. For the Maxi challenge, the queens had to be a part of an interesting Pantomime performance “Panto-Oh, She Better Don’t“, with Kate Buch having the advantage of choosing the character of her liking.
The queens are then coached by Michelle Visage and Dane Chelfin for the singing parts, while Karen Hauer teaches them how to dance according to their parts. The play soon begins and Cara, DeDeLicious, Ginger, and others all give a very strong performance.
The judges had to choose the winner of this week’s drag race Maxi challenge based on both the performance and the styled look following it, and while some performed very well on the Pantomime stage, they didn’t have the look that stood out for this week’s challenge.
After reviewing each of the performances, the judges, RuPaul, Michelle, and the others decided to eliminate Banksie from the challenge. While her costume and styled look were impressive, her Pantomime performance didn’t live up to the judge’s expectations, with it being too bland and weak when compared to what others offered.
