The drag queen competition and its regional franchises never stop, and that means more and more glitz and sass straight from the United Kingdom in RuPaul’s Drag Race UK version.
There’s now a King in that country, but that isn’t stopping these men from participating in the Drag Race to become crowned the Queen in RuPaul’s regional drag race spin-offs.
Each episode is a bomb, full of competitiveness, demanding challenges from the judges, and as usual, there’s always a bag of cash, lots of free makeup, and a shot of becoming the UK’s Drag Queen with a shot at participating in yet another international Drag Race show.
After the episode’s debut, we prepared for you a brief recap as well as all the necessary details to get your Drag Race viewing —UK-style— on the go.
RuPaul’s Drag Race UK Season 5 Episode 1 Recap
The debut episode for this kicked off meeting the contestants they are Alexis Saint-Pete from London, age Banksie from Manchester, age 23.
Cara Melle, age 26, from London. DeDeLicious from Royal Tunbridge Wells; Ginger Johnson, 34, from Lanchester; Kate Butch, age 26, from Buxton; Michael Marouli, 39, from Newcastle upon Tyne; Miss Naomi Carter, age 23, from Doncaster; Tomara Thomas, 25, from Hartlepool and lastly, Vicki Vivacious from Redruth.
After meeting and greeting everybody, we followed the same structure as most Drag Race shows do: there’s a runway show, and the two picked up for the Lip syncing contest were Cara Melle, and Vicky Vivacious, who did the best during the runway. The song was Gina G’s “Ooh Ahh… Just a Little Bit”, with Vicky being the winner.
There were no bottoms in the episode, just the top two that we mentioned earlier, but the judges told us that starting from the next episode, there might be an elimination. So these participants better bring out their A-game because it’s only going to get tougher from here on.
