The second season of The Night Agent concludes with significant twists and sets the stage for Peter’s next big mission. The season finale, titled “Divergence,” opens with Peter (Gabriel Basso) leading a raid on the UN building, which had been evacuated.
The mission aims to recover canisters of K.X. gas that were planted by Markus (Michael Malarkey). While Peter and his team are successful in seizing all of the canisters, Markus manages to escape. Peter and Rose (Luciane Buchanan) later track him down to the home of a woman who is dating one of Markus’ associates. After a tense confrontation, Peter shoots Markus and retrieves the last remaining canister of K.X. gas.
As the episode progresses, Peter turns himself into Night Action, after stealing a file from the UN for “intelligence broker” Jacob Monroe (Louis Herthum). Peter faces the possibility of prison time but says a final goodbye to Rose.
The show then jumps ahead in time, revealing that Noor (Arienne Mandi) and her mother have been granted asylum, and Rose has returned to her job with ADverse. In the last scene of the episode, Peter’s boss, Catherine (Amanda Warren), offers him a deal.
She tells him that if he works as a mole for Monroe and helps uncover Monroe’s connections to the incoming President, the charges against him will be erased.
Why Catherine Wants Peter to Work for Jacob Monroe
Jacob Monroe is a mysterious figure who pulls many strings in the background throughout The Night Agent season 2. Monroe was responsible for acquiring the Foxglove information for Bala, a war criminal. Later in the season, Peter is forced to make a deal with Monroe to save Rose’s life.
Monroe makes it clear that Peter will be “owned” by him after the deal, which weighs heavily on Peter, especially since his own father was a traitor. After Rose is safe, Peter admits his involvement with Monroe and is ready to face the consequences of his actions.
However, Catherine sees an opportunity to use Peter to her advantage. She wants Peter to find out the exact nature of Monroe’s relationship with the incoming President. This becomes crucial, especially after the flashback at the beginning of the finale, which shows Monroe meeting Hagan (Ward Horton), the man he will later mold into a Presidential candidate.
Hagan’s opponent, Knox, drops out of the race at the last minute, which practically guarantees Hagan will win. Catherine worries that Monroe’s influence over Hagan could mean that any classified information crossing Hagan’s desk will be sold to the highest bidder.
Catherine decides that the only way to uncover Monroe’s relationship with the President is to put Peter undercover. Since Peter played a role in swaying the election by stealing the UN file for Monroe, it becomes Peter’s responsibility to make things right. This mission will be risky, especially since Catherine and Peter will be going behind Night Action’s back, and failure could have serious consequences.
How Peter and Rose Stopped the Foxglove Attack
One of the main threats in The Night Agent season 2 is K.X. gas, a dangerous chemical weapon created as part of a U.S. government program called Foxglove. This program was designed to weaponize certain chemicals so that vaccines could be created as a precaution in case terrorists used the same substances as weapons.
K.X. gas was the most deadly weapon created by the program before it was shut down. Episode 7 of the season sees the weapon’s creator and Rose being kidnapped by Viktor Bala’s crew, a war criminal. Bala forces the creator and Rose to create a new batch of K.X. gas, which was intended to be released inside the UN building.
Peter manages to get information from Monroe about where the gas is being produced, and he rescues Rose and the other hostages. This leads to the season finale, where the UN building is raided, and Bala’s people try to plant the canisters of K.X. gas.
Peter and his team manage to stop the attack in time, saving many lives in the process. However, despite the success of the raid, the larger threat remains unresolved as Peter’s involvement with Monroe continues to be a complicated issue.
Why Peter Is Taken into Custody by Catherine
Peter knows he is making a deal with someone dangerous when he decides to work with Monroe. While he is mainly focused on saving Rose, Monroe makes it clear that the cost of the deal will be high, and Peter will essentially be “owned” by him once the deal is complete.
This situation weighs heavily on Peter’s conscience, especially since his father was once a traitor. Peter confesses everything to Catherine and Night Action, admitting his mistakes and accepting that he might face prison time for his actions.
At the beginning of season 2, Catherine is cold and distrustful of Peter, believing that he lacks the experience and skill required for such important missions. However, throughout the season, Catherine comes to admire Peter’s abilities and leadership.
She also reveals why she was initially hesitant to trust him: Peter’s father was a traitor, and Catherine was one of the agents who exposed his wrongdoings years ago. The investigation into Peter’s father led to the death of Catherine’s former partner, which makes her doubts about Peter understandable.
How Jacob Monroe Manipulated the Upcoming Presidential Election with Peter’s Help
Throughout The Night Agent season 2, the Presidential election plays out in the background. The two main candidates, Knox and Hagan, are battling for the position, but in the finale, Knox suddenly drops out of the race, which makes Hagan the new President.
This sudden change is partly due to the actions Peter took for Monroe, including stealing a file from the UN Secretary-General. The file revealed that Knox was connected to both Foxglove and the illegal sale of chemical weapons to Bala.
Bala had used these weapons on his own people and was planning to take revenge on America by using K.X. gas at the UN. Knox’s connection to Bala had been kept secret, but Monroe used the stolen file to force Knox to quit the race. As a result, Peter’s actions helped Monroe secure the Presidency for Hagan.
This puts Monroe in a powerful position, as he can now access classified military information and use it to his advantage. The situation is troubling for Catherine and Night Action because Monroe’s power over the President could lead to disastrous consequences for national security.
Is Peter and Rose’s Relationship Over for Good?
The first season of The Night Agent ended with Peter and Rose parting ways when Peter became a Night Action agent. However, in season 2, Rose gets caught up in Peter’s mission once again, and they rekindle their romance. By the end of the season, when Peter is taken into custody, he tells Rose that she should move on from him and keep away from him.
In a conversation with Noor, Rose admits that she is focusing on her career and believes it is time to leave Peter behind. This suggests that their relationship might be over for good. However, this could change in the future.
At the end of the season, Peter is released by Catherine so that he can continue working with Monroe, which could lead to more complicated situations involving Rose and Peter’s relationship. Given the nature of their bond, it is likely that Rose will return in The Night Agent season 3, and there is a chance that she and Peter might reconnect.
What Happens to Noor After Helping Peter at the UN One Last Time
Noor, who works at the Iranian embassy, plays a significant role in season 2. In the first half of the season, Noor is trying to gather intelligence for the CIA in exchange for asylum for her mother and brother. Unfortunately, Noor’s brother is killed during a rescue operation by Night Action.
This loss weighs heavily on Noor, and she finds herself in even more danger when the head of embassy security, Javad (Keon Alexander), learns of her involvement with the Americans.
In the finale, Noor helps Peter gain access to the UN, which allows Peter to complete his mission. After the mission, it is revealed that Noor and her mother have been granted U.S. citizenship and have moved to Illinois. Noor and Rose reconnect, with Rose offering to help her if she ever needs it.
This sets up potential future storylines for Noor, as she may continue to play an important role in Peter’s life and in the ongoing battles involving Monroe and Night Action.
What Will Happen to Javad After the Ambassador Incriminates Him?
At first, Javad appears to be a charming love interest for Noor, but his true nature is soon revealed. As the season progresses, Javad becomes increasingly hostile and violent toward Noor, especially after he discovers her involvement with the Americans.
Javad becomes obsessed with ruining Noor’s life and tries to capture Peter while also turning Noor over to the authorities. His actions put him at odds with Ambassador Abbas, especially when the ambassador learns that Javad has been secretly working against him.
Eventually, Javad’s obsession with Noor leads to his downfall. The ambassador can gather surveillance footage of Javad talking with Noor, and this evidence is used to incriminate him.
The ambassador accuses Javad of leaking information to the Americans, which leads to Javad’s arrest. He will likely be sent back to Iran to face punishment for his crimes.
How The Night Agent Season 2’s Ending Sets Up Season 3
While The Night Agent season 2 tells a complete story, the ending hints at what’s to come in season 3. It is implied that Monroe’s influence over the new President will have serious consequences for the country. As Peter goes undercover with Monroe, he will likely find himself in direct conflict with the President as well.
Monroe’s casual disregard for life and power makes him a dangerous figure, and Peter’s ongoing struggle to stop him could lead to even more intense confrontations in the future.
In addition, Hagan, the new President, has already shown signs of resistance to Monroe’s control, suggesting that their partnership may not be as smooth as Monroe expects. Season 3 promises to continue the story and introduce new challenges for Peter, Rose, and the rest of the characters, while keeping viewers on the edge of their seats.
