The story directly or indirectly relates to Beranger and the characters also revolve around his story. Matthieu Frances said, “I had already been talking a lot about the Martin affair for a year. I find that there is an extremely interesting field of writing behind it. This raises questions that I find very important for us Belgians. We should not that it’s a hindrance for people. It’s the starting point but it’s a whole different story, with other characters, we ask other questions. Besides, our criminal, Guy Béranger, is not a pedophile. It is rather, to take a reference, a ‘Hannibal Lecter’, a manipulative psychopath, fascinating and perverse at the same time.”
