Rian Johnson’s murder mystery show, Poker Face, will be airing a new episode this week. Charlie has been coming across a wide variety of murders, each done with a different goal in mind. With the most recent murder set in a Theatre, Charlie had to solve a case with legendary actors involved.
First seen on television on January 26th, 2023, Poker Face is centered on a young female con artist, Charlie Cale, who escaped from the casino she worked at after being involved in a mysterious murder. Ever since, Charlie has been traveling all over the states, trying to find some way to earn money. While at her job, she comes across all kinds of homicide cases, which she can solve easily. The reason behind this is the fact that Charlie has a special ability that allows her to easily guess when someone’s lying.
With this innate skill and a bounty on her head, Charlie provides interesting breakdowns of each murder. Poker Face has the procedural Columbo kind of plot that starts with showing the viewers the crime, then shows Charlie stepping in and trying to solve the mystery in front of her. This format proved to be a huge success back in the day, and director Rian Johnson recalls loving it and using it as the inspiration for his show.
It was announced back in March 2022, with Natasha Lyonne being cast as the main character. A month later, Benjamin Bratt was to join the cast of the crime series, but not as a permanent member, and would only appear when his character called for it. Benjamin plays the role of Cliff LeGrand, the Security officer of the casino Cale had escaped from.
The owner’s role is played by Ron Perlman. Each episode revolves around a new mystery, so we see new guest actors every week. Up until now, celebrities such as Luiz Guzman, Jameela Jamil, Adrien Brody, and many others have been a part of the show.
Poker Face Episode 6: Recap
In the previous episode titled “Exit Stage Death,” which was aired on February 9th, 2023, we see Charlie being fired from her previous workplace. She continues to look for a waitress job, and her friend Phil lets her know about a position at the theatre he works.
Sometime later, An old stage actress, Kathleen Townsend, meets up with Michael Graves, a co-actor she used to work with while performing the show “Spooky and the Cop.” She asks Michael to work with her one last time on the play Ghosts Of Pensacola as a favor. He hates the idea of it and reminds her that they used to hate each other and are enemies. Michael disagrees initially, but when his rich businesswoman wife Ava (Jameela Jamil) convinces him, he joins the play.
The production soon begins with Kathleen making sure that everything is according to what she had envisioned, much to the annoyance of everyone else. Starring with Kathleen and Michael is a young woman (Audrey Corsa) who acts as their child in the play. The hatred between Kathleen and Michael grows, and they set up a death trap for each other. Instead of either of them, Michael’s wife, Ava ends up getting killed by the traps. It is soon assumed to be an accident, but when Charlie notices Kathleen and the others lying, she soon figures out what happened.
Michael and Kathleen were in love with each other and wanted to get rid of Ava. They decided to perform for another time, but the Police were already notified of what happened. Kathleen performs beautifully for one last time and becomes the Ghost of Pensacola.
