Bethesda Game Studios director Todd Howard has dismissed speculation about stepping away from the industry, saying retirement is no longer something he actively considers despite spending more than 30 years at Bethesda.
During a recent interview with Jason Schreier, Howard reflected on his future and explained that his enthusiasm for game development remains as strong as ever.
Howard admitted there was once a time when he thought about what retirement might look like, but that has changed.
“The truth is, there was a period of time a while back where I pondered, what does it look like?… And I no longer do.”
He added that working alongside Bethesda’s developers continues to inspire him.
“I just love it. I love working with these people. It’s really not something I think about.”
Howard also pointed out that many veteran developers in the gaming industry continue creating successful games, reinforcing his desire to keep working.
Bethesda currently has several major projects in development, including The Elder Scrolls 6, while Fallout 5 is reportedly in pre-production. The studio is also continuing post-launch support for Starfield, alongside reported remasters of Fallout 3 and Fallout: New Vegas.
