Pocketpair Lead Says Popular Games Face Constant Collab Pitches, but Palworld Won’t Force Them: “We Don’t Want to Just Shove Random Things In”

John “Bucky” Buckley says “almost every popular game” receives collaboration proposals, while Pocketpair remains selective about which crossovers fit Palworld.

Palworld has become one of gaming’s biggest crossover targets, but Pocketpair is not accepting every collaboration proposal that comes its way. John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s head of publishing and communications, has revealed that the studio receives a large number of pitches from other games and companies, with many ultimately rejected because they do not fit Palworld.

Buckley discussed the subject in the official Pocketpair Discord on August 14, following earlier comments about the sheer number of collaborations the studio has turned down. His latest remarks also suggest that Palworld’s situation is not unusual among major games.

Pocketpair receives plenty of Palworld collaboration proposals

Responding to a fan asking about rejected crossover ideas, Buckley explained that Palworld is hardly the only successful game dealing with a constant stream of partnership requests. He said,

“I don’t think that’s unique to Palworld at all btw. I reckon almost every popular game is getting collab offers all the time.”

Buckley also confirmed that many companies have approached Pocketpair directly. When asked about the kinds of proposals that have been rejected, he simply responded,

“Loads but is that really so surprising?”

He later clarified the studio’s approach by saying,

“Many people offered us their games but obviously we don’t want to just shove random things in.”

That philosophy helps explain why Palworld’s collaborations can appear selective despite the game’s enormous popularity. Pocketpair has previously worked with titles including Terraria and Ultrakill, with the latter reportedly coming about because members of the Palworld team were genuine fans of the game.

The comments make clear that Palworld’s future crossovers will depend on whether Pocketpair believes a partnership makes sense for its survival game rather than simply accepting every offer it receives.
