Phantom Blade Zero Hits No. 1 on Steam Global Sales Chart One Day After Pre-Orders Open

Chinese-developed action games are continuing to make a major impact on Steam, with Phantom Blade Zero becoming the latest title to attract significant attention. S-GAME’s upcoming action RPG reached No. 1 on Steam’s global sales chart within a day of opening pre-orders, despite still being more than two months away from launch.

The result comes after the developer released an approximately 11-minute gameplay trailer alongside the pre-order launch. The new footage highlighted the game’s fast-paced martial arts combat while also revealing actor Donnie Yen’s involvement in the project.

Meanwhile, Black Myth: Wukong has also climbed Steam’s sales rankings following a major discount, further highlighting the growing commercial strength of Chinese-developed single-player action games.

Phantom Blade Zero Builds Momentum Ahead of Launch

Phantom Blade Zero follows Soul, a swordsman who is framed for murder and suffers a fatal injury that leaves him with only 66 days to live. He sets out to uncover the conspiracy behind his downfall while battling enemies across a dark martial arts-inspired world.

Combat is built around combining different weapons and martial arts techniques. The game features more than 30 main weapons, alongside Phantom weapons that expand the range of combat options available to players.

Donnie Yen has also served as a creative consultant on the project since 2023, contributing his martial arts and action-film expertise to the game’s combat design. He additionally portrays Mó Yuan, Soul’s father, through facial and motion capture.

The game was recently delayed from its previously announced September 9 release date to October 29, 2026. S-GAME has said the additional development time is being used for improvements, including character models and environmental work, rather than relying on post-launch updates.

Meanwhile, Black Myth: Wukong has returned to Steam’s sales charts after receiving its first 30% discount. Game Science’s action RPG reached No. 9 globally and No. 5 domestically following the price reduction.

The game originally launched in August 2024 and became a major commercial success, selling more than 20 million copies during its first month. Its success helped establish Game Science as one of the most prominent Chinese game developers in the global market.

Game Science is now working on Black Myth: Zhong Kui, while Phantom Blade Zero is attempting to build on the momentum generated by Chinese-developed action games.
