Pocketpair has clarified that Palworld: Side by Side is not a sequel or a separate game, but the upcoming version 1.1 update for the original survival game. The announcement initially sparked speculation because of its unusual title and mysterious promotional artwork, leading some fans to expect a major expansion or an entirely new project.
John “Bucky” Buckley, Pocketpair’s head of publishing and communications, addressed the confusion in a post on X.
“Palworld Side by Side is v1.1 by the way!”
he wrote, adding that he had expected the announcement to be clear but noticed that several people interpreted it as a new game reveal.
The update is scheduled to arrive in Winter 2026, although Pocketpair has yet to disclose its complete list of features.
Palworld 1.1 Update Will Focus on Meaningful Additions
Although Pocketpair has not revealed the full feature list, Buckley offered some insight into the update’s scale during an interview with MP1st.
“1.1 isn’t a massive update,”
Buckley explained, adding that the developers believe players “will be pretty happy with it.” He also confirmed that the team is not ready to reveal specific details.

Players should not expect another enormous content drop comparable to version 1.0, which introduced 72 new Pals alongside gameplay improvements and additional endgame content.
Buckley has also explained that Pocketpair wants to introduce new Pals meaningfully rather than simply increasing the roster. In another interview, he discussed the importance of giving each creature distinctive characteristics and gameplay purposes.
For now, Palworld: Side by Side remains scheduled for Winter 2026, with its exact release date and features still unannounced.
