Nintendo of America president Devon Pritchard has addressed the possibility of Grand Theft Auto 6 coming to Nintendo Switch 2, leaving the decision to Rockstar Games and its parent company, Take-Two Interactive. While Nintendo wants to offer a wider variety of gaming experiences on its latest console, Pritchard has not confirmed whether Rockstar’s upcoming open-world game will join its growing library.

Speaking during the Variety Entertainment & Technology Summit on September 17, 2026, Pritchard discussed Nintendo’s plans for Switch 2, the importance of third-party support, and the company’s efforts to reach players with different gaming preferences. Her comments offer insight into Nintendo’s broader strategy, although they do not confirm any new agreement involving GTA 6.

NINTENDO’S SWITCH 2 STRATEGY LEAVES THE DOOR OPEN FOR GTA 6

Pritchard’s response leaves the possibility of a Grand Theft Auto 6 port unresolved. When asked whether the game could arrive on Nintendo Switch 2, she said,

“That’s going to be a conversation for Take Two and Rockstar, but nothing to announce on my end at this time.”

The statement neither confirms a port nor rules one out. Instead, it places the question with Take-Two Interactive, which owns Rockstar Games, and the studio responsible for developing GTA 6. Nintendo has not announced a platform agreement for the game, so players should not interpret Pritchard’s comments as confirmation that a Switch 2 version is in development.

GTA 6 is scheduled to launch on November 19, 2026, for PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X|S. A Switch 2 release would expand the game’s platform availability, but its technical requirements and any potential port remain unconfirmed.

Pritchard’s wider comments suggest that Nintendo wants its latest console to accommodate a broader range of games rather than focus exclusively on its established franchises. She described the Switch 2 as being at the beginning of its potential, highlighting its improved graphics and processing power compared with the original Switch.

“That opens up a number of different ways for the developers to create experiences that can only be found on Nintendo Switch 2,”

she explained.

THIRD-PARTY GAMES AND ZELDA’S 40TH ANNIVERSARY SHAPE NINTENDO’S PLANS

Nintendo’s approach to third-party support offers a clearer picture of its ambitions. The company wants Switch 2 owners to have access to experiences beyond its own family-friendly franchises, including action games, role-playing adventures and more relaxed titles.

Pritchard described Nintendo’s audience as spanning “ages 5 to 95,” emphasizing the importance of offering different types of games on the same platform. She pointed to titles such as Fire Emblem: Fortune’s Weave and Pokémon Pokopia as examples of the varied experiences Nintendo wants to support.

The return of Call of Duty to Nintendo consoles also demonstrates this strategy. Activision is bringing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 to Switch 2 on October 23, 2026, marking a significant development for the platform’s third-party lineup. Nintendo’s official sales figures also show that Switch 2 had sold 23.68 million hardware units worldwide by June 30, 2026

Beyond its console strategy, Nintendo is preparing celebrations for The Legend of Zelda’s 40th anniversary. The company has announced The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time for Switch 2, with a November 5, 2026, release date, alongside anniversary activities and a live-action film scheduled for April 30, 2027.

Pritchard said the celebrations should welcome newcomers as well as longtime fans, encompassing Link, Zelda and the wider universe. She also stressed that any expansion into theme parks, movies or other entertainment should feel deliberate rather than forced.

For now, GTA 6 remains the unanswered question in Nintendo’s broader plans. Pritchard has made clear that Nintendo wants Switch 2 to offer a diverse library, but whether Rockstar’s next blockbuster joins that lineup is a decision that has yet to be announced.
