Recap
Abby finds herself enmeshed in a whirlwind romance with a well-known fashion designer during New York Fashion Week. Dan’s ambitions are offered by a well-known defendant, but Olivia pays a price for it.
Unquestionably, Abby is passionate about justice and always finds the best in people. She hires former night court district attorney Dan Fielding to be the court’s public defender in an effort to restore order and respect to the court and control its eccentric group of inmates.
Fielding, who is still incredibly self-assured, needs to get used to a new boss and a new role: standing up for the oppressed. And Abby is desperate to uncover the sympathetic side of Fielding hidden beneath his haughty exterior.
Olivia, the court’s pompous associate district attorney, is a problem for them both. Motivated and aspirational, she sees the night court as a stepping stone to greater opportunities. Neil, the jittery clerk at the court, enjoyed the lax standards of his position.
That is, until an idealistic new judge appeared who sought to force him to step beyond of his comfort zone. Donna “Gurgs” Gurganous, the astute bailiff of the night court, completes the crew. Gurgs is highly protective of her fellow night court colleagues and takes her work very seriously.
Right now, we sincerely hope so! The second season’s figures are significantly lower than those of the first, although it’s also possible that this is because the first season’s ratings were rather front-loaded.
We often assume that the numbers are at least passable for a comedy, but any slight improvement is welcome, particularly when it involves the reunion of two actors from one of the all-time great TV series. At the end of the day, shouldn’t it be what everyone wants?
