It was recently announced that Squid Game Season 2 will be released by the end of 2024. To build excitement, Netflix has shared a new teaser for the upcoming season. Fans can look forward to seeing Lee Jung-jae back in action, along with a new group of players ready to risk everything for a huge cash prize.
The latest teaser features the famous ‘Pink Soldiers’ track from the first season and introduces the new set of players. While their faces are not shown, the teaser reveals their player numbers, which are different from those in Season 1. The final number shown belongs to Seong Gi-hun (Lee Jung-jae) — 456. Although he has his number back, the challenges he faces might be quite different this time.
Netflix has also announced some of the cast for Season 2. Lee Jung-jae will return as Seong Gi-hun, Lee Byung-hun as the Front Man, and Wi Ha-Joon as Hwang Jun-ho. New cast members include Yim Si-Wan, Kang Ha-Neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun.
Created by South Korean filmmaker Hwang Dong-hyuk, Squid Game is a K-drama where players in dire financial situations compete in deadly games that resemble children’s games, with a chance to win ₩45.6 billion (about $33.2 million USD).
The story follows Seong Gi-hun, a divorced father who joins the games to help his elderly mother and pay off his debt. Meanwhile, a detective tries to uncover the truth behind the games and his missing brother, who is later revealed to be the Front Man.
Season 1, released in September 2021, was a massive hit on Netflix, receiving a 95 percent critics score and an 84 percent audience score on Rotten Tomatoes. It won “Best Male Performance in a New Scripted Series” at the Independent Spirit Awards and was nominated for “Outstanding Drama Series” at the Primetime Emmy Awards.
Following its success, Netflix confirmed that Squid Game would return for a second season, picking up from the cliffhanger ending of the first season. Squid Game Season 2 will premiere on Netflix on December 26, 2024. In the meantime, Season 1 is available to stream on Netflix.
