Less than a year after we saw the first pictures of Running Point, Netflix has now confirmed the release date for the show. The Los Angeles Lakers and stars Kate Hudson and Max Greenfield inspire this comedy series.
The series will be available to stream on Netflix starting on Thursday, February 27, with a total of ten episodes. The show has been created by Mindy Kaling, Ike Barinholtz, and David Stassen, who are also known for their work on popular TV shows.
The creators of Running Point—Kaling, Barinholtz, Stassen, and Elaine Ko—worked together to bring this show to life. However, Ko left the project in January 2024, and the team continued to work without her.
The story focuses on a woman named Isla Gordon (played by Kate Hudson), who becomes the president of a Los Angeles basketball team. Isla’s character is based on Jeanie Buss, who is the controlling owner and president of the LA Lakers. Buss is also one of the executive producers of the show. The official description of the series reads:
“When a scandal forces her brother to resign, Isla Gordon (Kate Hudson) is appointed president of the Los Angeles Waves, one of the most storied professional basketball franchises, and her family business.
Ambitious and often overlooked, Isla will have to prove to her skeptical brothers, the board, and the larger sports community that she was the right choice for the job.”
Running Point is not just about basketball but also deals with family dynamics, business challenges, and the pressure that comes with taking charge of a big organization. The story shows Isla trying to prove herself to her family, the team’s board members, and even to the sports world that she can handle the responsibilities of being the president.
In addition to Kate Hudson and Max Greenfield, Running Point features a talented cast including Brenda Song, Drew Tarver, Scott MacArthur, Fabrizio Guido, Toby Sandeman, Chet Hanks, and Jay Ellis. The show has a strong group of producers.
Kate Hudson is one of the executive producers, along with Howard Klein from 3 Arts Entertainment, Jeanie Buss, and Linda Rambis. Mindy Kaling’s production company, Kaling International, is working with Warner Bros. Television to produce the series, as Kaling has an full deal with the studio.
The development of Running Point has taken a few years to come together. The project was first announced around four years ago, but at that time, it did not have a title and was only described as a show inspired by the Los Angeles Lakers, created by Mindy Kaling.
What Is The Show About?
