Directed by Jeremy Garelick, the action-comedy movie Murder Mystery 2 was released recently on March 31st, 2023. The movie, starring Adam Sandler and Jennifer Anniston, is a sequel to the first Murder Mystery film released in 2019.
Immediately after its release, the movie managed to enter the Netflix Top ten most-watched list in over ninety countries, though reviews from critics seem to think otherwise. The movie has the two, Sandler and Anniston, as a couple, not all that in love with each other but still together.
This time two have set out for an innocent wedding, but it looks like trouble will find ways to find the two and wreck their getaway. The fact that a second part of the first movie will be made was confirmed in October 2021, with the main cast staying for their roles.
But the film has Mark Strong, Melanie Laurent, Jodie Turner-Smith, and Tony Goldwyn as just some of the new faces we will get to see on screen in the movie. The movie may not have turned out to be the comedic gold the critics wanted it to be, or the premise may not have been the unique thing about it, but one that the movie excels in is its beautiful wardrobe and locations.
Some of the shots in the film are alluring enough to make you want to start planning your next vacation. If you have watched the movie, you must have been curious about some of the exotic-looking locations, too, so continue reading to find out where did Murder Mystery 2 actually take place.
Murder Mystery 2: What is it about?
Where the first movie had Nick and Audrey dying with the urge to kill the other, it seems like solving the mystery together did their relationship well. The two are now private detectives working full time, who also casually get invited to a rich Indian guy, Vikram “The Maharaja” Govindan, marriage on his private island.
Upon reaching, the two find Vikram’s bodyguard, Lou, dead and Vikram kidnapped, and the detective agency opens once again. Highly trained detectives also accompany the detectives, and we wait to see who will solve the case first.
The couple moves from the private island to Paris under the command of Detective Miller, who dies in a car crash, but it is not revealed if he is dead or not. With Miller gone, Nick and Audrey are left to solve the case independently, at least for now.
A lot of chaos takes place, but Nick manages to save Vikram while Audrey catches the perpetrators. It is revealed that someone from Vikram’s family, jealous of his wealth and business, wanted to kill him to get all of his money.
Vikram, now safe, decides to continue with his wedding, all the while awarding Nick and Audrey with ten million dollars. But do not let your guard down because chaos ensues again when you think everything is alright.
Murder Mystery 2 Filming Locations
Kualoa Ranch, O’ahu, Hawai’i
This place is a four thousand acres private nature reserve and also a popular filming spot for movies. Many scenes from the movie, especially the ones at the beginning, were shot in this place. Movie lovers may find this place a bit too familiar, as this is where famous movies like Jurassic Park, Godzilla, and even Jumanji were shot.
The reserve is just twenty-four miles from Honolulu and has become such a tourist spot that it also hosts tours for visitors interested in knowing the exciting behind-the-scenes of the movies.
Lanikuhonua Lagoon, Hawai’i
The wedding scenes were probably the grandest thing in the entire movie. It was revealed that the entire sequence was shot in the beautiful Lanikuhonua Lagoons located in Hawai’i. This place is eleven acres of preserved land located on the Hawaiin island of O’ahu. A beautiful and well-maintained piece of land with resorts that scream luxury and drip in beauty, which added perfectly to the film’s cinematography.
Arc De Triomphe, Paris, France
In the scene when Nick and Audrey land in Paris to give the kidnappers their ransom and free their friend Vikram, the couple is around the gorgeous French monument built in 1836 after taking inspiration from the Arch of Titus in Rome. Sandler revealed that the crew and the actors had stayed on set for shooting till 2:00 am.
This is one of the city’s most famous monuments, and it may seem like the most iconic one, too but wait for the next one, as it clearly tops every other location.
Eiffel Tower, Paris, France
The Eiffel Tower, probably one of the most romantic places on Earth, is where Audrey, played by Anniston, decides to do her stunts in the movie. We all thought it was a set, but Sandler confirmed that they got permission to shoot on the Eiffel Tower.
Kelly Phelan has to be applauded for being a thousand feet in the air with only a rope around you. She revealed that for her, it was like checking something off her bucket list, and hanging from a world-famous monument is not something everybody can do. This scene was also shot during the early morning hours not to ruin anybody’s experience.
Les Cailloux, Paris, France
The scene where we thought Miller was dead after getting his car burned while he was inside, then later he made a comeback, was shot at another lovely location that happens to be a restaurant, Les Cailloux. The scene focuses more on the couple’s reaction and Miller’s car burning him to death, but the restaurant appears in the background if you look carefully.
Another extremely popular tourist hotspot that was also included while in Paris was the Love Lock Bridge, which is a spot frequently seen in movies and shows, where couples write their names on a lock and attach it to the bridge. This is where Nick and Audrey fall in love again and renew their vows.
