About The Show
Agatha Christie fans are in for a unique treat this Christmas, as the BBC will debut a brand-new adaptation of her widely read book Murder is Easy. The mystery thriller’s two-part version, set in 1954, tells the tale of Luke Fitzwilliam, a Nigerian who travels to the UK to take a job in Whitehall.
Fitzwilliam meets Miss Pinkerton on the train to London, and she tells him about the murderer who has been on the loose in her community of Wychwood, under Ashe. The villagers think that a string of fatalities was unintentional, but Miss Pinkerton believes differently.
Miss Pinkerton is discovered dead after confiding in Fitzwilliam, leaving the young Fitzwilliam with little alternative except to track down the murderer once more before they carry out their murderous plan.
Fitzwilliam will be portrayed by actor David Jonsson, who is most known for launching the TV show Industry and the romantic comedy Rye Lane in 2023.
Award-winning actress Penelope Wilton, a seasoned performer, co-stars. She has been in numerous shows, such as Shaun of the Dead, Calendar Girls, The Best Exotic Marigold Hotel, Downton Abbey, and many more. Luke Fitzwilliam travels to the tranquil town of Wychwood after learning of the death of a stranger, and he is determined to show that a string of terrible “accidents” is, in fact, the result of a murderer.
You may have only read a portion of Murder is Easy if you were an American reader and finished the book before 2010. When Murder is Easy was initially released in 1939, the publishing business was facing a shortage of two essential resources due to World War Two: the metal needed to set up type and paper needed to produce books.
This resulted in a thinner, less robust paper, and the type printing plates, which were frequently set by hand, required a lot of labour, metal, and time to produce. Many writers, including mystery novelist Rex Stout, gave their approval to have their previous works’ plates disassembled to free up metal for other uses, even though they might eventually be put back together.
Murder is Easy was severely edited due to its scarcity; a significant portion of the book was removed to conserve paper and metal. The lack of supplies also caused The Moving Finger to lose a lot of its content in the US. Of all the Christie mysteries, Murder is Easy has the most bodies. The Pale Horse, Death Comes as The End, and And Then There Were None are some of the other Agatha Christie stories that include this amount of deaths.
