Marvel and Disney’s collaboration series, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur is set to air its first-ever episode this week. Revolving around a young intelligent African American scientist turned superhero, the series is a classic girl-saves-the-world show, accompanied by a very unusual partner, a giant red Tyrannosaurus Rex with special abilities.
Talks of the show being in production go back to 2017 when Lawrence Fishburne and the producers at Marvel decided to adapt the Devil Dinosaur comic book into an animated series. As a child, the Matrix actor loved its comic books, and when he was approached to work on a female-centered adaptation, he quickly agreed to it.
The show is animated by several great animation studios, such as Flying Bark Productions, Marvel Animation, and Titmouse to name a few. Although it was set to release in 2020, the production crew delayed the premiere due to COVID and it had to be worked on remotely by the animators.
The second season was announced to be in production in October 2022. With a plot inspired by the comics by Helen Sugland and Natacha Bustos, and the creator of Kim Possible being one of the executive producers, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur could very well be one of the best-animated superhero series of this generation.
Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur: Who Are The Voice Actors?
Casting for the voice actors began in February 2021, and would even include creator Lawrence Fishburne as one of the characters. The titular characters, Moon Girl and Devil Dinosaur are voiced by Diamond White and Fred Tatasciore respectively. Diamond White came into the world of the TV after she was one of the contestants on The X Factor.
After her performance in the singing competition, she was cast to voice Frankie Greene from the Transformers series. Her work is included in shows like Sofia The First (Ruby), Phineas and Ferb (Holly & others), and The Lion Guard (Fuli), and is now starring as an actor in The Bold and The Beautiful (Paris Buckingham).
The actor that voices Devil dinosaur is the same actor behind the voice of Hulk from the Marvel series. His voice is brute and deep, making it perfect for brawny and huge characters. The characters he has voiced over the years include Yung (Avatar: The Last Airbender), Ripjaws, Way Big, Future Ben (Ben 10), Mannish Man (Adventure Time), Master Shifu (Kung Fu Panda), and many more.
Other voice actors that work on the show are Alfre Woodard (Mimi), Jermaine Fowler (James Jr.), Sasheer Zamata (Andria), Libe Barer (Casey), and Gary Anthony Williams (Pops). The recurring roles will be voiced by Lawrence Fishburne (The Beyonder), Omid Abtahi, Utkarsh Ambudkar (Anand), Craig Robinson, and Michael Cimino. The guest actors of the show are popular celebrities such as Maya Hawke, Luis Guzman, Andy Cohen, Gideon Adlon, and Jennifer Hudson.
