Miss A might have disbanded quite a long time ago, but the girls remain popular as ever. The four-member group debuted in July 2010. Their debut song itself topped the Gaon Music Chart, very well establishing the fact that Miss A are here to stay. The group was formed by one of the big three entertainment companies, JYP Entertainment. The groups consisted of members Jia, Min, Fei, and Suzy. Here, we shall be looking into Miss A’s Concept.
Miss A happened to be the girl group to debut after three years of the iconic Wonder Girls. Hence, expectations were high for Miss A, and they succeeded at it. Most of the K-Pop girl groups are expected to act cutesy and are considered to follow the cute, girl-crush concept more, but Miss A stood apart. These days, groups like Blackpink and AESPA are considered landmarks in the girl-boss type of concept. But before these new groups, Miss A was already doing it. Although Miss A’s concept can’t be narrowed to any one type, we’ll try deciding on the one which fits them best.
What Was Miss A’s Concept?
As we stated before, girl groups are expected to follow a certain stereotyped persona. Despite the fact that the girls work so hard, they are overlooked just because they are expected to fit certain prescribed criteria. But every now and then, some groups debut to break these prejudices. Miss A was undoubtedly one of them. Their group name Miss A meant that all the members of the group possessed A-level abilities. Another meaning attached to it was “being the top in Asia”. Well, it’s not wrong after all, since the girls did exactly fit these meanings. The group’s debut song itself established that they are a group that will promote the idea of strong female figures.
It doesn’t mean that Miss A only did strong female concepts only. In fact, their second single album’s title track, Breathe, deviated a lot from their debut EP. The girls donned an exotic and doll-like concept.
Not just promoting as a group, but the girls also produced a promotional song. The song was for Olympic champion figure ice skater Yuna Kim. It was the track Love Almoe from their album “A Class”. The girls of Miss A not just said that they are a personification of strong females but also proved it. One of their albums is called Independent Women, which clearly explains the concept Miss A had going, especially during the early 2010s, when 2nd generation boy groups were the IT thing. Miss A ended up having a great career, becoming one of the best-selling girl K-Pop groups.
Where Are The Members of Miss A Now?
The group debuted in 2010 after a much-awaited period of time. Over a career span of 7 years, the girls have had an impressive discography with two full-length albums, 3 EPs, and 8 singles. Each of them managed to top the charts, and that says a lot about the potential of the quartet. Before they even debuted, the group collaborated with Samsung Electronics in China, releasing a song for their promotional campaign.
After their EP Colors in 2015, the group went on an indefinite hiatus. In 2016, member Jia left the group, and member Min left the company in 2017 too. On December 27, 2017, the group was announced to be disbanded officially.
After their disbandment, all members of the group have went on to have their solo careers. That too quite successful ones.
Fei and Jia went back to their home country China and signed with agencies there. The girls have relatively successful solo careers. Min, too has a solar career, wherein she has also made her musical debut. But out of all of them, Suzy has gone on to have the most successful solo career. She is better known as Bae Suzy. She has starred in many successful dramas. To name some, Dream High, While You Were Sleeping, Unconrollably Fond, and Start-Up. In fact, during their promotional activities as Miss A, Suzy was the one with the most endorsements, and the scenario is still the same. Suzy isn’t hailed as “Nation’s First Love” for nothing.
