Recap Of The Show
In order to start again with her boyfriend, Ian Huntley, Maxine Carr relocates to Soham. Following a heated quarrel with Ian, Maxine spends the night out in her hometown of Grimsby while on a weekend visit to see her mother. She returns to Soham to give Ian an alibi after learning of the girls’ disappearance when she wakes up. The relationship becomes more exposed as media attention and the police search gets more intense, leaving us to wonder how much Maxine actually knows. Ian assists with the search as the police inquiry progresses, and Maxine is drawn deeper and deeper into the media frenzy.
When Maxine arranges for Ian and herself to appear on live television, she puts her own alibi in danger in case someone she met in Grimsby the night the girls vanished sees her there. Brian Farmer, an investigative journalist, is still looking for information and is still dubious of Ian’s involvement in the girls’ abduction. Ian and Maxine are detained on suspicion of kidnapping and murder as the evidence mounts.
Plot Of Maxine
The true-crime thriller Maxine on Channel 5 sheds new light on the 2002 slayings of Soham schoolgirls Holly Wells and Jessica Chapman by focusing on school helper Maxine Carr. The original abduction of the two 10-year-old school pals from the Cambridgeshire town of Soham in 2002 horrified the nation and sparked the largest manhunt in British history.
This three-part drama will look at the investigation into Maxine and her caretaker boyfriend Ian Huntley, who was later imprisoned for the murders, with newcomer Jemma Carlton playing Maxine and White House Farm’s Scott Reid as Ian Huntley. It digs into Maxine and Huntley’s turbulent relationship, considers why she lied to the police on his behalf, and demonstrates how she came to be known as “the most loathed woman in Britain.” May 2022 saw the start of filming in Ireland for the three-part drama.
