The episode that Matlock fans have been eagerly waiting for is finally here. At least, it seems that way. However, with this show, things are never as simple as they appear. Matty (Kathy Bates) carefully retraces Julian’s (Jason Ritter) movements on the day the Wellbrexa documents went missing.
She uses his keycard check-ins to follow his path. This journey leads her to a difficult realization—one that she had hoped was not true. Now, Matty must face the hardest decision of her life. She has to decide between standing by her new friends or taking action to get justice for Ellie.
This episode brings some of the most important moments of the season. It reveals a lot about Matty’s past and presents new challenges that will change everything moving forward. The final moments of the episode are especially powerful, leaving viewers eager to see what happens next. Fans will also be happy to see Shae (Yael Grobglas) return to the screen.
In addition to Matty’s personal struggles, this episode focuses on YouTwo, showing how Billy (David Del Rio) and Sarah (Leah Lewis) strengthen their friendship. Their relationship has been tested many times, but they prove that they value their connection and want to maintain it, even when they do not see eye to eye.

YouTwo Strengthen Their Bond in ‘Matlock’ Episode 14
Billy and Sarah have faced many challenges throughout the first season of Matlock. They have competed for Olympia’s (Skye P. Marshall) attention, fought over who should handle a case alone, and struggled to see eye to eye on many issues. This week, they go through another test. They must deal with the possibility of a new office space, as well as Billy’s relationship with Simone (Andrea Londo).
Sarah has made it clear that she does not like Simone, but she realizes that Billy’s choices are his own. Even though she would prefer that Billy stay away from Simone, she makes an effort to move past it. Their friendship is more important to her than her personal feelings about Simone.
Billy and Sarah agree to a deal that helps them get along better. Sarah promises to listen to Billy’s complaints about Simone’s tricky behavior. In exchange, Billy agrees to stop reminding Sarah that she is struggling with the open relationship Kira (Piper Curda) wants. This is a major step forward for both of them.
At one point, Matty used to be very close to Billy and Sarah, but things have changed. Even though their dynamic is different now, it is good to see Billy and Sarah in a better place.
They seem to have learned how to work together without letting personal differences get in the way. The real question is whether they will be able to maintain this level of maturity when one of them finally gets Olympia’s old office.
Matty’s Sister Helps Crack the Case in ‘Matlock’ Episode 14
Julie Hagerty delivers an excellent performance as Matty’s sister, Bitsy. Viewers learn that Matty’s younger sister played a key role in the creation of her Jacobson Moore alter-ego. Bitsy shares stories from the well-known Cindy Shapiro, adding more layers to Matty’s backstory.
However, despite the fun stories, it becomes clear that Matty and Bitsy have unresolved issues. Their conflict has nothing to do with Bitsy taking over Matty’s kitchen. Instead, it is about something much deeper.
Years ago, Bitsy allowed Ellie to stay at her house for a week. This happened after Ellie had completed one of her first rehab programs at the age of nineteen. Matty had no idea where her daughter was, and she was terrified. She spent that entire week feeling helpless and afraid. When she finally found out where Ellie had been, she was furious at Bitsy for not telling her.
Matty believed that Bitsy should have done more to keep an eye on Ellie. However, Bitsy was only trying to help her niece. She thought she was doing the right thing. Eventually, Matty realized that Bitsy was not responsible for Ellie’s struggles. Addiction is a difficult battle, and it was not something that Bitsy could have controlled.
The sisters finally talk about their past and come to an understanding. However, before they can fully make peace, Bitsy stumbles upon Matty’s investigation board. She immediately demands answers. Matty explains everything to her, but Bitsy becomes very worried. Her concern makes sense. After all, pretending to be someone else is not a legal defense.
Despite her concern, Bitsy helps Matty figure out an important loophole in the Slammed class action lawsuit. Matty uses social media evidence to prove that the drink company secretly targeted minors with exclusive parties. This evidence helps her convince the mother of the sorority girl who died in the last episode to join the lawsuit. This decision changes everything for the case.
Matty Realizes a Heartbreaking Truth in ‘Matlock’ Episode 14
Matty wins in court, but her personal struggles continue. She follows Julian’s keycard trail from the day the Wellbrexa documents went missing. With the help of Edwin (Sam Anderson), she carefully pieces together Julian and Shae’s actions that day. She studies old blueprints and carefully searches the building. Her efforts lead her to an unexpected realization.
Julian never destroyed the documents. Those papers could have proven that Jacobson Moore had hidden important evidence about opioids years ago. Matty follows Julian’s path and ends up in Olympia’s old office. Then, she hears Olympia’s voice in her head and understands the truth.
Julian was not the one who took the documents. Olympia must have accidentally taken Julian’s keycard and moved the documents to her office.
Matty does not confront Olympia in this episode, so nothing is confirmed. However, she knows deep down that Olympia is the most likely suspect. This realization comes right after Olympia makes a kind gesture toward Matty. Olympia tells Matty that if she ever has to leave the firm, Matty would be her first hire. This moment shows how close they have become.
Now, Matty faces a difficult choice. She must decide what to do with the information she has uncovered. Will she search Olympia’s office for the Wellbrexa documents? Can she confront Olympia directly? Is she willing to send someone she deeply respects to jail?
Matty’s decision will affect not only her career but also her future. If she chooses to go after Olympia, she may lose an important mentor. If she stays silent, she may never get the justice she wants for Ellie. No matter what she does, nothing will ever be the same.
Matlock airs on Thursdays at 9 PM on CBS. You can watch new episodes the next day on Paramount+.
