With a fresh Mystery Box challenge, an all-new episode of MasterChef Australia will be aired this week. Now that only a few episodes are left for the finale, the contestants are gearing up for an intense cook-off that’ll give them the title of the next Australian MasterChef.
MasterChef Australia was first seen on television on 27th April 2009. It started with Gary Mehigan, George Calombaris, and Matt Preston as the hosts and judges. Over the years, the judges have changed, and for the latest season, 15, the newest judges include Jock Zonfrillo, Melissa Leong, and Andy Allen. This will mark the last show Jock Zonfrillo was a part of before his sudden death on 30th April 2023.
Each season begins with 24 contestants going through all kinds of challenges that test their cooking skills and other important factors. For the 15th season, only 18 contestants were seen, out of which only 5 remain. Shannon Bennett returns as the overseer of all immunity challenges, and the show finally feels complete. Now that they’ll be working towards the finale, the competition is only going to get more dramatic and fun.
MasterChef Australia Season 15: Recap
So far we’ve seen the contestants go through an immunity challenge where they had to cook a dish in 60 minutes that would please both the taste buds and the ears. The dish had to feature a “sound effect” that would make the judges want to eat more of it. Winning this round would provide them immunity in the next elimination, giving them a place in the top 5.
After the timer ends, the judges call Brent first. He presents the judges with Chilli Crab Tostadas with Lychee orange salsa, with the sound being provided by the crispy tostadas. Although the flavors were good, the judges were a little disappointed by Brent’s dish.
The next dish they tasted was by Malissa, who went for the sweet side and made Popping frozen candy mousse with tuile and roasted figs. Malissa’s dish turns out to be good but overall not balanced.
Declan brings forth his next dish, which is a sizzling pepper steak. Theo makes Crispy betel leaf kangaroo, which manages to impress the judges enough for them to call this dish the best thing they’ve had in a while.
This dish gives Theo his first-ever immunity pin and a spot in the Top 5. The next challenge the contestants had to go through was the elimination round, where they had to cook against the chocolatier Kirsten Tibballs.
Baking is much harder than cooking, and these chefs were up against someone who’s nothing less than a pro in baking and pastry making. They all had to work around the given time limit to create a dessert that would match up to or even be better than the dish Kirsten presented.
