Nintendo has given Mario Kart 8 Deluxe a substantial free update for Nintendo Switch 2, adding several features that make the long-running racing game better suited to the newer console. Version 4.0.0 is now available and introduces expanded local multiplayer, CameraPlay support, sharper visuals, and reduced loading times.
The update is particularly notable because Mario Kart 8 Deluxe can now support up to eight players on a single Nintendo Switch 2 system in split-screen multiplayer. Players can connect the necessary controllers, with Nintendo noting that additional accessories may be required for larger groups.

The Nintendo Switch 2 update also improves the game’s presentation. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe now supports the Switch 2 display and high-resolution TVs with sharper visuals, while race and battle loading times have been shortened.
Another major addition is CameraPlay, which lets players connect a compatible USB camera and display racers’ faces during gameplay. CameraPlay works with two to four players locally and can also be used online through GameChat, giving players another way to interact while racing.
Nintendo has also made gameplay adjustments beyond the Switch 2 features. The update increases player speed by the equivalent of one coin, while players using Boo will no longer lose speed when entering off-road areas. Owners of the Booster Course Pass also gain a “96 Races” option in VS Race settings.
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe Version 4.0.0 is available now as a free update for Nintendo Switch 2 players, giving the 2017 racing game another significant upgrade years after its original release.
