Nintendo has rolled out a new firmware update for the Nintendo Switch 2, introducing expanded language support as part of its ongoing effort to improve accessibility. Version 22.5.0, released on June 15, 2026, prioritizes usability enhancements rather than major feature additions.
According to Nintendo’s official support page (Nintendo Support Page), the company continues to refine its systems “to provide the easiest, most user-friendly experience possible.”
New Language Support Expands Accessibility Tools
The headline feature of update 22.5.0 is the addition of Dutch and Russian to key accessibility settings. Nintendo confirmed in its patch notes:
“Added Dutch and Russian to ‘Text to Speech’ languages in Accessibility”.
This update ensures that players who rely on text-to-speech functionality can now use these additional languages seamlessly. It marks a notable step toward making the system more inclusive for a broader global audience.
GameChat Improvements for Better Communication
Alongside text-to-speech updates, Nintendo has also expanded language support within its GameChat functionality. The same two languages—Dutch and Russian—are now available for the “Change Speech ⇔ Text During GameChat” feature.
This improvement directly impacts multiplayer communication. Players who prefer or require speech-to-text tools in these languages can now interact more effectively during online sessions. It also reduces friction in team-based gameplay where communication is essential.
