Sue Aikens is the only person living in the camp at Kavik River in northern Alaska. She turned sixty on July 1, 1963, the day of her birth. Adjacent to the Kavik River, the camp is located 197 miles north of the Arctic Circle. Her maxim is, “If it hurts, don’t think about it.”
Chip and Agnes Hailstone are the parents of seven children and reside in Noorvik, 19 miles north of the Arctic Circle. On the Kobuk River, they call home. Chip lived in the Montana town of Kalispell before moving to Alaska.
Agnes is the only cast member who has spent the most time and has lived in Alaska their whole life. Born in Noorvik, she is an Inupiaq and a Native Alaskan.
In Brushkana, Alaska, Jessie Holmes, a dogsled racer, hunter, and fisherman, resides alone with his forty sledge dogs. Andy Bassich lives in Eagle, Alaska, on the Yukon River with his 25 sledge dogs. He moved to Alaska with his spouse, Kate Bassich, from Washington, D.C.
Ricko DeWilde, an Athabaskan from Alaska, moves to his family’s remote, abandoned house in Huslia. He starts teaching his small children how to survive on their own by having them over later.
The brand-new cast members of Life Below Zero: Next Generation have seen modern life and rejected it in favour of a free life in the harsh Alaskan wilderness. They address the generation’s mounting discontent with technology, which permeates every aspect of contemporary life.
