Komi Can’t Communicate, or Komi-san wa, Komyushō Desu is a fan-favorite romance/comedy manga and a recently adapted anime. It’s a 4-koma (for the most part) manga that covers the social anxiety aspect of Komi’s everyday life. Written and Illustrated by Oda Tomohito, he makes an excellent attempt at making victims of social anxiety feel more at ease to approach and talk to other people and encourage them to make friends through the series, Komi Can’t Communicate.
The Story doesn’t center around one specific character; Oda Tomohito makes sure to give a stage and build a story on most side characters in the series, which most mangakas fail to do so! That being said, Komi-san and Tadano are definitely the main stars of the series. With the manga reaching its 400th chapter mark, we still learn more and more about the cast in every chapter.

Chapter 398 (3rd Year Summer Festival), The 3rd year class 1 are having all the fun they can have in the firework festival. However, the main focus of this and the coming chapters were dedicated to the undercard duo, Wakai & Manbagi. You’ll see the comedy gags that the series has used way over a couple of times, yet still making you giggle like it was the first.
Manbagi & Wakai walk in a pair around the festival grounds, going through a variety of stalls, be it for food or to have fun; the sense of wholesomeness can be felt through the screen. With a fair share of awkward moments, it shines a light on the reality that not everyone can be composed in front of their significant other. The chapter ends with a few signs of interactions between Manbagi & Wakai, solidifying the potential ship about to sail.
Chapter 399 (3rd Year Summer Festival, Part 2), Manbagi & Wakai walked far from the festival crowd for a breath of fresh air by the side of a lake. They both sit down and talk their hearts out. At the same time, Manbagi opens up about the romantic feelings and the heartbreak that our lovable Tadano-kun caused her. Wakai finally set his mind straight and let his thoughts flow out as they came.
Wakai opens up about how cozy & calm he feels with Manbagi around and goes on to admit that he prefers Manbagi over the Everly loved Komi-san, showing that he’s come forward with an indirect confession. Unfortunately, however, they fell on deaf ears since the fireworks had already started.
Wakai then thought of this as the right opportunity to confess while the fireworks were on display, following the cliché trait of most confessions in romance manga/anime. To much surprise, the Fireworks ended right as Wakai confessed his love, leaving both of them surprised for very different reasons.
Chapter 400 (Kawai-San’s House), the trouble is at large. Kawai had invited Tadano and Komi-san to her place as an excuse for having to show them ‘something.’ What could her true motives be? Meanwhile, Tadano and Komi-san are having their wholesome interaction in the cab that Kawai had booked.
As the love birds enter Kawai’s apartment, they are immediately greeted by Kawai’s overprotective cousin (yet he introduces himself as Kawai’s brother). Overprotective enough to threaten Tadano by radiating bloodlust toward him. We also come to meet his weird parents, who again claim to be Kawai’s parents, which they are not.
With that aside, the three of them meet in Kawai’s room. Kawai admits that she invited them for the sake of having friends at her home, yet she had no idea what to do after. So Tadano took the initiative to appreciate that she invited them over & was happy for her that now she has a family, in the process of glossing over the past, as he claims that Kawai did not have a family member attend any of the school events.
The chapter finally ends with Kawai flaunting her shelves of trophies and awards. Then leads to Kawai explaining her tragic middle school life, where she didn’t have the opportunity to go out with friends. Tadano had an idea of what was coming. So before she spelled it out, Tadano agreed in a heartbeat, inviting her to the summer festival. Leading to the events of Chapters 398 to 400.
Komi Can’t Communicate Chapter 401: Potential Spoilers
We can expect the re-telling of the summer festival but from the perspective of Komi, Tadano, and Kawai-san. Something that would be exciting to see as two socially inept ladies try to play their roles in a high-spirited festive such as this
