Tom Clancy’s Jack Ryan returned with yet another superb set of episodes, and it’s been almost two weeks since the release of Jack Ryan Season 3. And John Krasinski saved the world again, this time from a nuclear war. Jack Ryan has always been action-packed, but this time it was just more, maybe too much to make it feel unreal, not the style of a CIA analyst. The season received an IMDb of 8 overall, showing viewers did love it.
From season 2, only the main lead John Krasinski (as Jack Ryan), Wendell Pierce (as James Greer), and Micheal Kelly (as Mike November) returned, and the rest of the cast was new typical Jack Ryan nature.
What was remarkable was that this time we moved to Russia, and the Czech Republic, with Nina Hoss playing Alena Kovac (the President of the Czech Republic). Peter Guinness played Petr Kovac, James Cosmo played Luka Goncharov, and Alexej Mavelov played Alexei Petrov. Some roles could have been a lot better.
A confidential project, a series of betrayals, cold-blooded murders, naval destroyers, and a plot to overthrow two superpowers into war, I can’t think of anything that could have been added to this. Therefore, here’s an explanation of how the series ended, but not before discussing the critical events.
Jack Ryan Season 3 Recap
The series begins with Jack claiming a lead on the Sokol project investigation. Supposed to be the bomb, they instead get their hands on a scientist, Yuri, who was working on the project, and demand asylum before talking. At the same time, Russian Defence Minister Popov is assassinated at a stadium in the Czech Republic in front of Alena Kovac.
On the other hand, Yuri and Jack are attacked; though he tries his best, Yuri is killed, and the CIA takes Jack as the fall guy putting a Red Notice on his name. Greer uses the traditional Hawala network to serve money and information to Jack, who receives them in a clothing store.
Jack meets with Tony, who hides Jack from Wright and Greer and the Athens Police Force, which the GRU controls. During this, Jack discovers that Konstantin is GRU, and something brews between Luka and Alexei. Greer says with Alena that the US had zero involvement with the assassination.
At this time, we see Petr meeting with Alexei, and as Greer would say, “They’re in bed together.” Towards the last scenes, we finally see that Luka is feeding information to the Americans, and Jack meets with Mike for further help.
Greer finds that Petr knows Radek from long before and asks him about Radek. This leads to Radek kidnapping Alena to keep his family safe from Petr. It is in this episode that Alena finds out the truth about her father.
Jack and the team allow Luka to escape with the weapon to help find the one behind it all. Petr kills Radek, and Alena abducts his family to gain information about Petr. Jack meets with Alena and explains everything that’s happening; he devises a plan to prevent the truck from exploding in the nearest town.
And he leads the weapon’s explosion into a tunnel avoiding loss of life. The main goal was to make it seem like NATO was carrying nuclear weapons inside the Czech Republic, which would have allowed Russia to deploy its weapons as a pretense for preventing war.
Jack Ryan Season 3 Ending Explained
After preventing the Sokol attack, the team discovers that another project named the Crossbow is in action. We can say that the entire purpose of the hardline Russians was to throw the US and Russia into war by any means possible, and Sokol meant power.
Alexei and Antonov plan to overthrow the Russian President, and Alexei signs a decree ordering Antonov to proceed to war. Luka onboards the Fearless to confront Antonov while Jack prevents the US destroyer from attacking back.
Kovac and Mike meet with President Surikov and play the tape where Alexei accepts the coup and murder of Popov, leading to his being shot. The lieutenant arrests Antonov, and attacks from the Fearless are stopped.
Jack and Greer receive medals of honor, and Wright is promoted to the Director of the CIA. Luka’s end was supposed to be happy, but it isn’t, as we see him being escorted from his house, probably on orders from the President to pay for his crimes.
