FXX sitcom, It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia will be returning with a new season soon. The eccentric Gang is all geared up to face new sets of challenges and ideas heading their way, giving us more unhinged content that no other show could match. The season 16 trailer has left us puzzled by showing the cast of Breaking Bad out of nowhere, making us wonder exactly what they’ll be doing on this crazy show.
First seen on US television on August 4th, 2005 (three years before Breaking Bad was a thing), It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia is the comedy sitcom with the most seasons ever seen in the US. The brain behind the show is mostly Rob McElhenny, who portrays Ronald McDonald in the series. With almost no budget and a handheld camcorder, the young cast of It’s Always Sunny began shooting random pilots on their own.
When it was pitched to streaming platforms, FX Network agreed to air the series, and although it had a slow start, the dark comedy and sociopathic characters made the show different and fresh. It has since been releasing new seasons each year, with the latest season set to finally come back on FXX after a break of almost two years. It’s Always Sunny stood out from other shows because of its way of promoting Schadenfreude, a kind of comedy that generates from petty, narcissistic situations.
The plot centers around the pub called Paddy’s, which is operated by Charlie, Dennis, and Ronald. Dee shows up at the pub at times as well, but her true goal is to be a movie star one day. This one-of-a-kind group could never keep the pub running for a long time if it wasn’t for Charlie’s father, Frank. He’s a millionaire and now lives humbly with his son. Frank is also the one that provides the finance for all the crazy stuff these Paddy’s employees think of.
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Season 15 Recap
In the previous season of Its Always Sunny, which began airing on December 1st, 2021, we see Everyone at the bar talking about their PPP Loans. They were not going to receive one this year and instead ended up having to justify the money they spent through the other loans. We go into a flashback where Dennis and Mac are shown buying guitars with that money to support their dreams of being musicians. They later take another loan to “help” the elections going on nearby and to support the voters, even if it’s most chaotically.
In episode 2, Frank walks in and lets the Gang know that Lethal Weapon’s parts were removed from the library. This was a movie that they all worked in and had strange plots. The reason Lethal Weapon was taken off the collection is that it had racial discrimination and blackface in it. Frank convinces the group to forget what happened and work on a new part 7 for Lethal Weapon. He tries to make the movie take a sexual direction while the others just try their best to perform their roles accurately.
In the next episode, the group hears the news that their local skating rink is being shut down and probably even demolished soon. They’re all pretty sad to hear this, as they had made many memories at the place. We see a flashback from 1998 when Charlie used to be the manager of the skating rink. Dennis, on the other hand, tried to help his father in his business matters, not knowing what was going on behind closed doors. The third episode centers around Dee, as the Gang suspects she could be going through menopause.
They take this as the perfect chance to fire Dee. We later see that Dee was just preparing for a role and was in character all week. As the guys sit and think about their vacation, Frank brings out a real Monkey that would replace Dee’s job. Dee, on the other hand, takes acting classes and receives a call from the director, who says she would be perfect for a certain role in their film. In episode 5, everyone leaves for Dublin. When they arrive at the place, Dennis hopes that they can have an actual European experience, but the others are busy with their own strange goals.
Dee tries to get a role in one of the local soap operas, but she is given an obnoxious role. Another episode of season 15 takes place in Ireland, and Dennis and Dee decide to stay in the countryside. Charlie remembers his old childhood pen pal and decides to set out on a journey to find him. He is accompanied by Frank. Mac suddenly feels the need to be a priest and joins a seminary. Dennis and Frank don’t like Charlie’s pen pal and decide to play a trick on him. Charlie is delighted to meet the pen pal and makes a very impactful choice.
Dee gets to date a doctor from Ireland, but it doesn’t go as planned. The season finale has the Gang climbing up a mountain to follow the Irish Burial ritual, but when the moment to do this arrives, only Charli is left to take care of the situation.

It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia Season 16: Spoilers

Dee goes through a tough time finding a new place to stay, as her old landlord has reached the maximum level of greediness. With crypto and online investment trending everywhere, Charlie tries to coax Frank to invest in such businesses.
Frank gets ahold of a dangerous weapon that could threaten the well-being of the Gang, which is a gun. As they feared, Frank ends up shooting Dennis and Dee, but it doesn’t turn out to be that fatal. Nonetheless, they try their best to convince a now gun-addicted Frank to give up his weapon. We’ll also be seeing Mac and Charlie’s grandfather passing away, who leaves them the unique kind of inheritance ever left behind.
It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia: Cast of Season 16
Asides from the main characters, many old as well as new faces will be making an appearance this season. The original Gang will be making a comeback, and although they seem older, Charlie and Frank don’t look like they’ve aged at all. The returning cast members include Charlie Day in the role of Charlie Kelly, Glenn Howerton as Dennis Reynolds, Rob McElhenney will be playing Ronald McDonald, and Kaitlin Olson will return as Dee, Dennis’ twin sister.
Frank, Dennis’s father and money provider, will be portrayed by Danny DeVito once again. Even though it’s been many years since this dark comedy first started, the main Gang of Charlie, Mac, Dennis, and Dee has remained the same. This is because this eccentric Gang is enough to make It’s Always Sunny a hit series, as no one can be as unhinged as they’ve managed to be all these years.
Other side characters we see throughout Its Always Sunny In Philadelphia include Mary Elizabeth, David Hornsby, Artemis Pebdani, and Lynn Marie. With season 16’s Trailer showing a cameo by the infamous Breaking Bad actors Bryan Cranston and Aaron Paul, we really can’t predict what kind of content this season is going to be filled with.
