HoYoverse may be preparing one of its biggest departures from the anime-inspired RPG formula that defined games such as Genshin Impact, Honkai: Star Rail, and Zenless Zone Zero. A recent leak surrounding the developer’s mysterious project, reportedly known by the codename Nodusfall, claims the game could be heavily inspired by Capcom’s Monster Hunter series.
The information comes from leaker Seele Leaks, whose comments were shared by Gacha Zone on X. When asked about gameplay from an alleged NDA test, the leaker reportedly described the project simply as “Hoyo’s Monster Hunter.” Neither HoYoverse nor its subsidiaries have officially confirmed these gameplay details, meaning the claims should be treated as unverified.
HoYoverse’s Nodusfall Could Be a Major Genre Shift
Nodusfall has remained largely under wraps, although HoYoverse previously revealed recruitment information for an unnamed project that appeared to describe a more realistic open-world fantasy experience. Earlier reports have linked that project with Nodusfall, while recent leaks have suggested the codename may have changed to “The Weavers.”
According to the leaked information, the game could feature a dynamic open world, different ecosystems, large-scale boss encounters and cooperative multiplayer. These elements would represent a significant change from HoYoverse’s established approach, particularly if the combat and progression systems are designed around hunting enormous creatures.

Leaked images reportedly showing menus and launcher backgrounds have also fueled speculation surrounding the project. However, no official gameplay footage has been released, and the images alone do not confirm that the project is specifically a Monster Hunter-style game.
The concept nevertheless fits with earlier descriptions of a HoYoverse project that would feature a more grounded visual style. Rather than following the heavily stylized anime aesthetic associated with Genshin Impact and Zenless Zone Zero, Nodusfall has reportedly been described as having a more realistic fantasy setting.
If the reports prove accurate, HoYoverse could be attempting to combine its strengths in open-world design and character-driven RPGs with a structure closer to Monster Hunter. Capcom’s franchise has also become increasingly influential across the genre, particularly following the success of Monster Hunter Wilds.
For now, HoYoverse has not officially announced Nodusfall, confirmed its reported new name, or revealed its gameplay systems. Any similarities to Monster Hunter therefore remain based on leaked information rather than an official description of the project.
