BBC’s Young MasterChef brought many hidden culinary talents to light last year. Young adults from all over Britain will be returning to the platform once again to showcase their skills and participate in all kinds of exciting cook-offs and other challenges.
Young MasterChef consists of unique challenges that home cooks ages 18 to 25 can participate in and put their culinary knowledge to the test. These young chefs can be waiters, homemakers, or scientists during the day, but when they’re on the MasterChef platform, they’ve only got one goal, and that’s to impress the judges and leave the show with a victory on their hands.
For the first season, the judges chosen to be on the show were Poppy O’Toole and Kerth Gumbs. Poppy is an influencer chef who has 700,000 followers on her Instagram page and makes new, interesting recipes all the time. Kerth Gumbs is a TV personality and is the head chef at Ormer Mayfair in London.
Both of the chefs are perfectly suited to judge these young cooks and guide them with the advice that could put them on the path to success. Each episode usually features new chefs from different occupations and heritages trying to win the challenge of the day.
Recap
The show started with 5 new chefs from diverse lives arriving at the opening of the brand-new kitchen. These contestants included a psychology student, a nurse, a young mother, an entrepreneur, and a DJ trying to win the challenge that judges Poppy and Kerth had given them.
Episodes usually begin with Poppy and Kerth announcing the task for the day and then giving the contestants enough time to think about what they’ll be making for the day. Once the timer begins, these home cooks will cook up their delicious meals and present them beautifully.
The chefs that we see on Young MasterChef may be young and inexperienced, but for this BBC show, all you need is culinary skills and strong enthusiasm. The first few episodes of Young MasterChef will be the selection rounds, where new chefs will be joining the judges every day.
Episode 5 of Young MasterChef was an exciting pizza night where all of the young culinary talents presented unique flavor combinations—this season also had tons of other interesting challenges, like cooking different kinds of Indian curries, making a tasty but sophisticated seafood dish, and much more.
The chefs also had to make a very complex ice cream dish that would qualify for a high-quality MasterChef dessert. Episode 9 had the four remaining contestants compete in a tough battle of street food pop-up shops, while the finale had them cooking a delicious two-course meal.
