Shadow tells the tale of four high school students who find and reveal the secret truth of the town’s dubious school. Dan, the main character and an eleventh grader, has just transferred to Saint Lawrence, an all-boys school, in 1999, when the novel takes place.

Dan enrolled in the school because he was close to Brother Anurak, the dean, and Anurak could help him with his sleep paralysis.
But when Dan sits on Trin’s desk on his first day, things get stranger. Since Trin was truly lost in the lake beyond the school, no other student dared approach his seat.
Dan eventually becomes close to Josh, his roommate, and Nai, his classmate. After that, the three got to know Cha-aim, who visited their school to perform at their yearly event. The four quickly come to the realization that Trin’s disappearance and Dan’s dreams are related and that they need to put an end to them as they discuss the mystery surrounding both.

Dan transferred to Saint Lawrence’s, an all-boys Catholic school, in 1999 while he was in grade eleven. At a nearby hospital, his father is receiving treatment for end-stage brain cancer; his mother passed away when he was just seven years old.
Brother Anurak is a psychologist and the dean of the school, and Dan is close to him. Dan suffers from sleep paralysis, which his brother Anurak tries to treat. Dan experiences a suffocating shadow in his dreams, which only becomes worse when he transfers. In an attempt to make sense of the dreams, Brother Anurak thinks Dan has a fixation on his father.
On his first day, Dan startles everyone by sitting at the desk of Trin, a senior who vanished at the lake behind the school inexplicably the year before. Nobody is brave enough to use that desk or to discard it.
He meets Cha-aim, a Saint Mary’s student who comes to play in the yearly play, as well as his roommate Josh and classmate Nai. As the four get closer, they start investigating Trin’s disappearance and assisting Dan in escaping the shadow that is bothering him.
There were a lot of unanswered mysteries after the last Shadow episode. Anan and Dan were lost in the fun house at the beginning of the previous episode. The more they looked about the funhouse, the more terrified and perplexed they both were. Abruptly, Anan notices her reflection in the mirror.
Dan witnesses Trin’s reflection, even though he is having the same experience. They were being followed, but they were unable to apprehend the assailant. When they finally managed to get away, Anna began punching Dan because she believed he was the one who had played him. Upon calling both to the principal’s office, none took what they saw seriously.
