What Reborn to Master the Blade: From Hero-King to Extraordinary Squire Is All About?
One of the things that I absolutely hate when reincarnation or Isekai animes do this is when they reincarnate or put somebody in another world, in another body, in a grown person. The very first episode of the anime series premiered on Jan 10, 2023, on various leading anime networks in Japan, including TV Tokyo, BS TV Tokyo, and AT-X. On the other hand, for the digital release, the anime is licensed by Crunchyroll and is being produced by Studio Comet.
They put them in a child that is like 8 or 12, they put them in like a brand new body, but that is not how reincarnation works. They do that because it is an ability to cut corners not to have to develop a character up to the point where that they want to then tell the story. It’s much harder to tell the story about somebody actually being reincarnated into another world and then having to let them level up to a young age to then start your story.
So it’s a way to cut corners when it comes to writing and when it comes to storytelling, and I think it is a cheap thing that anime does. Well, with Reborn to Master the Blade, they do the exact thing that I love, that separates really good Isekai Reincarnation type of anime, and that is the fact that showed us that Inglis, the main character of our story, was a Hero King, and he had let his people, he had the goddesses blessings, he had the preexisting relationship with the goddess of the world that he had inhabited, and was able to fulfill his calling via the goddess.
This behavior leads people and Kingdom, and he was able to create a Kingdom and basically get the love of all of his people, so much so that you know, on his deathbed, he was surrounded by everybody in the kingdom, just telling him not to leave. So, the goddess ends up meeting him, which I think was a beautiful story for him, and he thanks her for showing this old man her beautiful face.
While on the other hand, the goddess talks to about like, “Oh! you blew my mind, and you blew my expectations, you did everything to ask, what can I do for you.” And he is like nothing, and he lived a beautiful life, there is nothing she could do for her. When she forces him, he says he would be loved to be reborn again because in this life, he had zero regrets, but in the next, he would love to see what his capabilities were if he were just to give all of himself to the blade.
So he loves the blade, but he was limited by having to be the King and everything that came with that, and that just alone is exceptional storytelling, right? Then he is reborn into this world, and that’s where we start off with. I think this anime has a lot of subtle hints or like subtle drops of comedy, and it does it in such an intricate and well-written way.
The best thing about this anime is although he was a guy before the reincarnation in this new world, he is a young and beautiful girl. In this one episode, they showed us very quickly, but regardless, a good portion of him deals with being a baby.
That is what separates a really great story and just like okay everyday Isekai type of story, and that is so good. I like how he was reborn with the same name, and he was reborn as a girl, I love how his reaction was, how he got the short end of the stick. The good thing was he quickly found out that he still had the goddess’s gift, which was basically to use magic around him.
They refer to magic in this world as Eather, and he learns that there are different beasts and there are strong similarities to this world and the world from which he came. One thing that we did find out later on during the story was that people are really ignorant of magic and Eather and stuff like that, so he is gonna have to kind of establish a lot of things.
I love how he is constantly judging all the different situations, I love how he was trying to go attack the beast that was attacking, but he was the baby, and I love how he ended up attacking him and his family. He had to save the day by using the Eather Blast Attack, which sucked out all of his energy, I thought that was absolutely hilarious.
Then the episode moved on to the next piece, and now he is suddenly like five years old, and I like how he was very confident.
