Recap and Review

The animated series Invincible revolves around an ordinary teenager named Mark Grayson who discovers he has inherited extraordinary superpowers from his father. Mark’s dad is Omni-Man, an alien from the planet Viltrum who is basically Invincible’s version of Superman.

Omni-Man came to Earth on a supposed mission of peace. He fell in love with Mark’s human mother Debbie, and together they raised Mark, all while Omni-Man protected the planet as a superhero. As Mark comes of age, he manifests powers like flight, super strength, and speed. With his father’s guidance, Mark becomes the superhero Invincible.

However, Omni-Man has been hiding his true sinister motivations. He ruthlessly kills the planet’s other heroes, the Guardians of the Globe. It’s revealed that the Viltrumites are actually a race of conquering tyrants, and Omni-Man was sent to determine if Earth is worth taking over.

Mark is devastated at his father’s betrayal. When he confronts Omni-Man, the ensuing battle nearly kills him. As season one ends, Mark worries about how to stop his father from enacting the Viltrumites’ violent plans for Earth. The reveal upends everything Mark thought he knew and sets up a tense showdown between Invincible and Omni-Man in season two.

The first season of Invincible steadily builds up the shocking truth about Omni-Man through several revelatory episodes. This admission completely upends everything believed about Omni-Man and his origins.

Mark is left stunned at his father’s betrayal and questioning his own role now that he knows Omni-Man came to Earth as a violent colonizer, not a benevolent hero. The reveal sets up a tense conflict between Invincible and Omni-Man that will likely explode when season two premieres.
