The “swapped at birth” cliche is more common in comedies than in actual life. In every family, there is an outlier child who is either so intelligent or gifted that his or her parents wonder if he or she is indeed theirs. The Mexican Netflix original Daughter From Another Mother imagines the impact of a switched-at-birth event on the families concerned.
The first shot amuses the babies in the hospital nursery. Two of the babies’ wristbands have been removed by a nurse in order to be cleaned. Another nurse informs her that she is not permitted to do so. “Eenie, meanie, miny, moe,” says the first nurse, unable to recall which infant’s wristband belongs to which.
Daughter From Another Mother Plot
The gist amuses as follows: We return to the day Mariana (Paulina Goto), a pregnant college student, and Ana (Ludwika Paleta), a businesswoman, are expecting their first child. Each has their own viewpoint on work and parenting.
Mariana (Javier Ponce), who has divorced Pablo, prefers natural water births at home and breastfeeding for as long as possible. Ana wanted to go to her room at the high-end hospital, where the newborn could only be carried for so long. Ana also uses a high-quality formula that she has used on her other two children previously.
The ambiguity lasts until each child is four months old, giving Ana and Mariana time to bond with the newborns they mistook for their own. They both find it difficult to give up the child, even if it is their own child.
Although there are a few complicated variables, the contractual agreement demands no communication between the families following the shift. One of these is Ana’s total disgust for Mariana’s way of life, which she does not want Regina to inherit.
Juan Carlos (Martn Altomaro), Ana’s husband, and Tere (Liz Gallardo), Mariana’s mother, both had “relationships”; Juan Carlos signed up for a dating website immediately before leaving Ana. Ana and Mariana finally meet discreetly so Mariana may breastfeed Valentina and Ana can comfort Regina.
Because Teresa has been attempting to reintroduce Pablo into Mariana’s life to assist with the baby, and Ana does not want to break her promise to Joan Carlos to stay away from work for the first year of the baby’s life, the two strikes and unusual agreement: Mariana will move in with Ana’s family and care for both babies until Valentina weans from Mariana.
Daughter From Another Mother (original title: Madre Solo hay Dos) is a more direct comedy than the other Mexican original programs available on Netflix. It has a similar tone to The House Of Flowers, except it is a little soapier. It more closely resembles the snarkier tone of a series like Catastrophe than anything else.
