Bringing to you tales of wrestlers that are darker than night itself, the Vice TV docu-series, Dark Side of The Ring has returned to television with a new season. As strong as professional wrestlers may seem, the world of this theatre sport is not as cool and entertaining as it looks. This show focuses on some of the most controversial moments seen in wrestling, from homicides to aggression scandals.
When Dark Side of The Ring first premiered on April 10th, 2019, it was met with good criticism. The docu-drama turned out to be so successful that new seasons were shortly ordered and an after-show called After Dark was also aired along with the main series. It still stands as Viceland’s top show, showing just how much its audiences have been enjoying the mysterious and absorbing series. A spin-off, called Dark Side of Football was also seen in 2021.
Dark Side of The Ring is the brainchild of Evan Husney and Jason Eisener. The fourth season of Dark Side of The Ring was said to be in the making earlier this year in April, and the season finally premiered on Vice TV on May 30th, 2023. Buckle up as we’ll be deep diving into professional wrestlers’ stories like Bam Bam Bigelow, Marty Jannetty, Junkyard Dog, and many others this season.
Dark Side Of The Ring: Season 3 Recap
The previous season of the Vice TV show began airing its episodes on May 6th, 2021. The first two episodes of the wrestling docu-drama featured the unfortunate tale of Brian Pillman, one of the best wrestlers of his time. He had a terrible accident that left him with multiple injuries, but despite it, Brian tried to push his body to work for him without giving it rest. Pillman eventually passed away due to the stress, and the incident left his family and fans with a broken heart.
Another wrestler we see last season is Nick Gage, the man known for his lethal Deathmatches. Though his power makes him victorious on stage, Nick’s brute personality was also the reason for him ending up with a 6-year prison sentence. Gage didn’t murder anyone but instead resorted to robbery and other illegal stuff to deal with a tough life.
Not only does Dark Side of The Ring cover wrestlers’ dark lives, but it also features terrible historical events that left many speechless. One such incident we see in this docu-drama is the Flight 757 scandal, where a handful of wrestlers were intoxicated and this led to a huge fight while the plane was still in the air. Johnny K9 also known as Ion Croitoru was an infamous wrestler that was secretly living a double life. During matches he would be a strong wrestler, but in later parts of the day, Johnny would be involved in heinous crimes such as bombing and drug trafficking.
