Mother Synopsis
The drama revolves around a temporary elementary teacher Kang Soo-jin. She joins the school to gain some extra experience. From her first day itself, she notices how a kid, Kim Hye-na stands out among all of the other kids. Her way of talking is much ahead of her young age of 8. The kid seems to have found a liking for Soo-jin too. Another teacher Ye-eun notices how Hye-na seems to have frequent bruises all over her body. Hye-na lives with her single mother and her boyfriend. Her boyfriend is the most horrendous person ever and lashes out violently at the kid frequently. Although the kid tries to avoid any questions regarding the bruises, Soo-jin figures out she has to do something.
Soo-jin’s character eventually believed that they could never be a mother to anyone. But after seeing Hye-na, her latent motherly instincts pour out. Since parental rights are pretty strict in South Korea, it was impossible to take Hye-na out of that hell-hole. Out of her concern for protecting Hye-na, she ends up kidnapping Hye-na and taking her away from her mother. The drama is such an eye-opener about how many such kids exist in toxic households. Their cries go unheard as parents threaten the kid and force them to keep their mouths shut. Plus, Asian cultures are particularly conservative, where kids uphold their parents as equal to godly figures.
Cast of Mother

Actress Lee Bo-young plays the role of Kang Soo-jin. Kang Soo-jin is a teacher who forms a bond with her student Hye-na whom she recognizes as getting abused at her home. Hence, she decides to save the kid. Bo-young is further known for dramas like When my love blooms and Mine.
Heo Yool plays the role of abused kid Kim Hye-na. The drama helped her gain worldwide recognition. For Mother, she won the award of Best Actress at Baeksang Awards. She was the youngest to be nominated for this award and also won it. Heo Yool was last seen in Netflix’s original drama, Sweet Home.
