30 Coins is an HBO original series in Spanish by HBO and Pokeepsie Films for the European division of that network. It was created by Alex de la Iglesia in partnership with Jorge Guerricaecheverria and stars Eduard Fernandez, Miguel Angel Silvestre, Megan Montaner, Paul Giamatti, and Macarena Gómez.
This horror-thriller tells the story of Father Vergara, a priest dedicated to exorcisms and a former convict residing in a small town in Spain called Pedraza.
But when strange happenings begin to occur in the village, he needs the assistance of Paco, the town’s mayor, and Elena, the veterinarian, to solve a mystery that seems to be connected to a coin he holds.
One of the thirty coins of silver that Judas Iscariot may have received for turning on Jesus and turning him up to the Romans may be represented by this coin. The three will become embroiled in a plot that threatens the modern world and involves the Holy See.
For the sophomore season, the majority of people in Pedraza, a secluded village in Spain beset by unexplainable, demonic occurrences, have become insane and are housed in a mental health facility.
In a hospital bed in Madrid, Elena is unconscious, and Paco, brokenhearted by regret, tries to tend to her needs. Giamatti is a strange new enemy that our group of protagonists must battle as the terror around them grows. Giamatti is so nasty even the devil himself is afraid of him.
