Taylor Sheridan, a talented filmmaker, deserves credit for his remarkable contributions to reviving the neo-western genre and successfully bringing it into the mainstream. His exceptional storytelling approach, deeply rooted in American traditions, captivates both past and present generations. Notably, “1923” stands as another prequel to the highly acclaimed and critically praised series Yellowstone. The other prequel, 1883, tells us the story of how the Duttons managed to land in Montana during the Western expansion of the United States.
But in 1923, we see how the Dutton family, now well established in Montana, must deal with the economic downturn, lawlessness, and societal problems that plagued the roaring Twenties and how they managed to come on top. It’s evident that Taylor Sheridan’s commitment to his craft and attention to detail make him a true pioneer in modern storytelling, particularly in this genre, but he’s also shining with Tulsa King, where he works with Allen Coulter from The Sopranos, and in Mayor of Kingstown with Jeremy Renner.
It stars Dame Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford as the successors and patriarchs of a dynasty that, as we saw in Yellowstone, managed to control the largest ranch in the state of Montana.
How Many Seasons Are There In 1923?
In the world of television, Taylor Sheridan has emerged as an exceptionally busy individual. With his creative prowess extending far beyond the captivating first season of 1923, Sheridan is meticulously shaping the future of the illustrious Dutton family at the Yellowstone ranch.
Thanks to his lucrative collaboration with Paramount+, the sheer magnitude, intensity, and vastness of his projects rival the exceptional caliber that Dick Wolf and NBC would aspire to achieve.
But wait, that’s not all I have to share with you because there’s more! Not only is Sheridan dedicated to the development of 1923, but he’s also immersed in the creation of 1883, 6666, a series based on the real ranch that Sheridan bought in Texas, Yellowstone, and an enthralling Yellowstone sequel.
On top of these captivating ventures within the Yellowstone universe, Sheridan even ventures into unrelated yet equally captivating narratives, such as the enthralling Mayor of Kingstown and the captivating drama of Tulsa King.
Indeed, with such an extensive portfolio of television projects in his hands, Taylor Sheridan is proving to be an unparalleled force in the realm of storytelling, captivating audiences with his masterful and diverse creations.

Sheridan Continues To Deliver The Neo-Western Genre
The acting is impeccable, and the sightseeing and the way in which Sheridan manages to construct perfectly devious villains, heroes, and complex scenarios will give you lots of things to talk about with your friends. Dame Helen Mirren and Harrison Ford portray the Duttons at a moment when the United States was in dire conditions, facing famine, economic downturn, and lawlessness.
Having said all this, a 1923 second season is in the works, but so far, Paramount+ and Sheridan are busy with other projects, and with the sudden exit of Kevin Costner from Yellowstone, they might have a lot on their plate. Still, that kind of setback won’t put a busy man like Taylor Sheridan to a halt when it comes to making these great neo-westerns.
So, if you’re like me and enjoy Yellowstone and 1883, you’ll love 1923 because you’ll be intrigued as to how the Duttons managed to become so powerful in the present day; watch it because you won’t be disappointed.
