Discovery’s unscripted reality show about a family of homesteaders that help struggling fellows living off the grid Homestead Rescue Season 11, gets more impressive with each passing chapter. We see how Marty, Misty, and Matt Raney travel across America to lend a hand to those people who want to live off the grid but face tough challenges.
Living off the grid isn’t easy. People who embark on this lifestyle must comply with government regulations, respect, protect, and comply with local and federal laws, and sometimes, as we will see in this last episode, deal with the authorities who fail to do their job when it comes to upkeeping and maintaining in good state the infrastructure. It’s a daunting task that our group of experienced homesteaders embarks and as you’ll see, they come up with the best of results.
Recap
This episode takes us to Oregon, where a group of homesteaders almost died after a nearly fatal accident. That’s when Matt, Marty, and Misty come in to lend their expertise on how to save their property and bring it up to speed. The task isn’t easy at all.
These Oregon homesteaders live in a secluded area, surrounded by beautiful forests and deep into nature, they’re only connected to the grid via electrical power, and the only way in or out of their property is through a bridge that connects them to the main road. Sounds fun, right? But things in Homestead Rescue aren’t supposed to be easy. The bridge is in shambles, these people are isolated, and moving equipment, or even getting in or out of there is problematic.
It’s the state’s and local authorities’ responsibility to uphold, maintain, and upkeep infrastructure, they tend to do so, even with their problems, but in this case, local authorities have neglected the bridge for years.
And since infrastructure building isn’t something that you can do on your own because the State will come after you, Matt, Marty, and Misty, along with the homesteaders, must get creative to make a bridge that lives up to the regulations, as well as provide them with the safety, durability, security, and reliability to make these homesteaders remain connected to the main road.
It is not easy. We see how the crew in the confessionals complains about all the red tape, and the daunting job of taking their machinery, their equipment, from point A to point B. In the end, they make it. And how they do it, it’s an amazing task in itself.
