Sabbat had planned to enrage Asuka to the point he would go overboard and use Vis to protect himself. It was a flimsy excuse, but all he wanted was to confirm his standing in society by knocking down one of the rising talents.
What Sabbat didn’t take into consideration was that, unlike him, his foes dedicated themselves to their training. The result was two kids that not only have talent but also hard work to push them to their limits and be better in their craft. Sabbat learned this lesson when he got beaten to a pulp by Asuka, using nothing but a wooden sword to beat him, while Sabbat couldn’t conjure any Vis.

Helmut: The Forsaken Child Chapter 50 started with their instructor barking instructions at them for the coming duel practice among themselves. He advised that the kids should choose someone that they had never crossed blades with to get a new experience out of it. He also added that it was prohibited to use Vis against their opponents, or they would be facing punishments.
The students started to look for their partners, but soon, there was a commotion between Asuka and Sabbat. Asuka challenged the heir to one of the noble families who always tried to attack him in some manner. And even this time, Sabbat was holding on to his poisonous tongue and provoking Asuka rather than engaging him in the dual.
We are shown a flashback where Sabbat is making plans to sabotage Asuka and Helmut’s future in an upcoming duel. Sabbat planned that they would provoke them and, on the day of duel practice, use Vis to harm them. The damage done to their bodies would be so great that their future would forever be destroyed, making them drop out of the university.
