Reason 1 why you should watch Guns Akimbo, it’s grimy, it’s unexpectedly funny, and also, the female sidekick isn’t some immortal Mary Sue or just some insert love interest for the male lead. She’s actually the most interesting character in the story. But I guess her face doesn’t quite sell tickets like Harry Potter’s does.
His recognizable face is the reason why I clicked on this movie on Amazon Prime, and it’s the reason why you clicked on this. Well, that and you love my incredible content, of course.
Guns Akimbo movie opens with a pixelated Joker wanna-be telling how morbidly corrupt the internet is.
In this movie’s world, there exists an online streaming show called Skizm where people sign up to kill each other while the whole world watches, and I could see this being a thing that exists. We already take pleasure in watching people practically kill each other in the ring why not take it to the next level?
Plot
We’re introduced to Daniel Radcliffe’s character Miles Harris. But I’m going to call him Harry Popper because I’m a creative genius. Harry Popper is a lonesome nobody who works as a coder for a terrible mobile game, under an equally terrible boss.
Harry Popper lets off some steam that evening by trolling some people on a Skizm stream. But like all high-level IQ trolls, he didn’t know when to quit and got the attention of the Skizm admin who quickly traced his IP address.
Harry Popper faces the consequences when some Skizm people who are dressed like Mad Max Fury Road burst into his room. Here we see the main villain, I forgot what his name is but he looks like the underside of a school desk So I’m naming him Bubble Gum.
They knock Harry unconscious and he awakes to find his hands have been surgically attached to two pistols so he freaks out like a little bitch. He finds out his opponent’s name is Nix whose name I’m not going to change because that’s British slang for knickers. Harry attempts to negotiate with Nix but her edgy tattoos should be a sign that she doesn’t play nice.
The people commenting on the livestream aren’t too happy about Harry running away and hiding from Nix and the people in the Skizm studios are arguing about what to do. The comments are flying in because no one has died yet and the Director’s freaking out too.
Filming Locations
‘Guns Akimbo’ takes place in the made-up city of Shrapnel City, which is believed to be in the US. Therefore, it makes sense that fans would want to know which city the film was really shot in.
The majority of the “Guns Akimbo” filming took place in Auckland, New Zealand. Local sources claim that Studio West, located at Glen Eden, was the site of much of the filming for “Guns Akimbo.” There are three soundstages within the 8-acre production complex.
In addition, Customs Street was used for filming. Radcliffe apologized to the residents of Auckland after the Customs Street filming disrupted traffic and caused discomfort. Moreover, Queen Street had also been used for a scene.
Illinois
Chicago, Illinois, was another location used for “Guns Akimbo” filming. There was, however, no other source where I could check to validate this information.
The majority of sources simply listed New Zealand and Germany as the locations for the films. But still, we can see we can a lot from Illinois locations in the movie aside from New Zealand and German locations.
Germany
The majority of the movie featuring the Skizm building was shot in an old Munich factory. Stefan Ciupek, the film’s cinematographer, also described how they were able to keep going both profitably and logistically as a result of finding this shuttered place. The factory was successfully transformed into an adaptable environment by the crew.
Along with filming the rooftop showdown sequence, the building also served as the location for Miles’ apartment, among other productions. The English Garden was also used for some filming. It seems that an explosive movie prop was not disclosed to airport security officers by the production team.
