In the K-pop industry, you must have heard about many K-pop groups and idols. They all are under some entertainment agency that sponsors them. They are dependent on their agency for their training as well as the funds for their performances.
K-pop idols and their performances have a great impact in South Korea as well as internationally. To achieve all that success and fame, they rely on their agencies to schedule everything properly and also get trained from there. After all this struggle, fans love K-pop idols based on their talent.
Some K-pop idols are rich enough to sponsor themselves. But a girl group started its journey independent of any agency- “Girl Crush.” Girl Crush is a K-pop group that started its journey without getting support from any agency.
On 28th February 2019, Girl Crush officially opened a ‘Makestar’ account for gathering funds to debut in the K-pop industry. The group gathered a total of $6,900 USD, exceeding their goal by 55%. But they joined a K-pop agency after some time due to the shortage of funds.
GIRL CRUSH: Debut
On 8th April 2019, Girl Crush made its debut under “DAM Entertainment” and released its first digital single, “Memories.” On 1st February 2020, Girl Crush’s contract ended with DAM Entertainment. After that, the group signed a new contract with another agency called “HW Entertainment.”
Members
Girl Crush consisted of four members at the time of its debut- Bomi, Zia, Taeri, and Yo-na. When the group’s contract ended with DAM Entertainment, Yo-na left the group. On 4th February 2021, a new member, ‘Yuka,’ was introduced to the group.
At the time when the group signed their contract with HW Entertainment, Yuka left the group, too, for unknown reasons. In her place, a new member, “Hayun,” was added to Girl Crush. Currently, there are four members in Girl Crush- Bomi, Taeri, Zia, and Hayun.

Bomi
Bomi’s birth name is ‘Jeong Bomi.’ She was born in South Korea on 12th May 1996. She is the main dancer, main rapper, and visual of the group. She is an amazing dancer and choreographed the group’s debut single, “Memories.”
Zia
Zia’s birth name is ‘Ryu Jia.’ She was born in South Korea on 9th June 1995. She is the leader and main vocalist of the group. She is very good at singing and doing make-up. She can speak Korean and English.
Taeri
Taeri’s birth name is ‘Jeong Taeri.’ She was born in South Korea on 29th March 1994. She is the lead dancer and sub-vocalist of the group. She is an amazing actor and also knows computer programming. She is the tallest member of the group.
Hayun
Hayun’s birth name is ‘Kwon Hayun.’ She was born in Siheung, Gyeonggi-do, South Korea, on 12th November 2005. She is the youngest member of the group. She is very good at playing soccer. She was also a member of the pre-debut girl group “Blaze.”
Songs and Albums
On 8th April 2019, Girl Crush debuted under DAM Entertainment with their debut single “Memories.” On 4th January 2023, the group announced its upcoming digital single “Oppa, Do you trust me?” and released it on 5th February 2023.
The group also encountered some controversy due to their song being adult themed, as at that time, they were featuring a minor (Hayun) in it. But the agency ensured that the music video would be released after Hayun became an adult.
Girl Crush is a special group because it started its long journey without any external support from any entertainment agency. They are youngsters who decided to take over people’s hearts with their mesmerizing vocals and amazing dance performances.
