In recent years, many television shows have featured main characters with dark sides. Many antiheroes show questionable morals. Gabi Mosely, played by Shanola Hampton in NBC’s Found, joins the ranks of characters like Tony Soprano and Walter White.
We cheer for these characters, even if we don’t always agree with their choices. In this exciting psychological drama, viewers discover that Gabi was kidnapped as a teenager by a man named Sir, played by Mark-Paul Gosselaar.
He kept her in a remote place for years before she escaped. Gabi now works to find other missing people through her organization, Mosely and Associates (M&A). However, she hides a huge secret from her closest friends.
In the first season, which started in October 2023, Found reveals that Gabi has been keeping Sir captive in her basement. He was once her high school teacher, then her kidnapper, and now she is imprisoning him. The victim has turned into the captor.
The most shocking part of the series (even more than someone being chained up in a home) is the twisted relationship between Gabi and Sir. It becomes a game where the power changes hands frequently, but Sir often seems to have control, and Gabi does not see it. Sir also helps Gabi with her investigations because he knows how abductors think.
Gabi has a loyal team of friends who help her. They include Margaret, a human lie detector; Dhan, a mysterious yet loyal ally; and Zeke, a hacker who struggles with agoraphobia. Gabi is also close to a woman named Lacey, who was held captive with her when they were younger.
Throughout the first season, Gabi tries hard to keep her secret hidden while working to bring missing people home. However, a big twist sets up an exciting Season 2.
Sir Poses a Very Real Threat in the ‘Found’ Season 1 Finale
In the shocking Season 1 finale, Sir escapes from the basement where Gabi has kept him. It is also surprising that he could have escaped at any time, suggesting that their strange bond was what kept him there. In the last episode, Lacey’s dog, Cruiser, becomes very sick, and the vet says the dog has been poisoned.
The rat poison Gabi keeps under the sink is missing, and a flashback reveals that Sir once poisoned one of Gabi’s classmates who teased her. This shows that Sir is willing to hurt others if it means he can control a situation. This makes him even more dangerous than previously thought.
To make things more intense, the Season 1 finale ends with Lacey returning home, and the camera shows Sir hiding behind a door. This raises the question: will Sir actually harm Lacey? He threatened Gabi in Episode 8, saying he would kill Lacey if she ever tried to turn him in.
Is this just an empty threat, or could he really follow through? Gabi would be heartbroken if anything happened to Lacey, especially if it was her actions that led to it. Even if Sir only wants to talk to Lacey, her sense of safety is already fragile.
It would be terrifying for her to learn that Sir entered her home without her knowing. Whatever happens, Gabi has put Sir back into Lacey’s life without her consent.
The Future of M&A Is in Jeopardy on ‘Found’
Besides Sir, Gabi faces another major change in her life at the end of Season 1. Although Sir helps Gabi find a missing teenager, she realizes he will never leave her alone. Part of her wants to be rid of him forever, but their fates are now tied together.
Gabi decides to tell her team the truth, confessing that she has kept Sir chained in her basement. Her friends are shocked and feel betrayed. One by one, they leave her, and Gabi ends up sobbing on the office floor. She knows she has broken their trust, especially since these friends have also faced trauma in their own lives.
What does Gabi’s confession mean for her organization’s future? Will she still be able to find missing people? Gabi has always wanted to bring attention to the plight of missing individuals, especially women and children, who often get ignored by law enforcement and the media.
However, her confession will likely make her work harder because she may not have any staff left to support her. Margaret has worked hard to heal and improve her relationship with her daughter. Will she risk her mental health to continue working with Gabi?
Plus, since she can detect lies, will she doubt her skills after learning Gabi’s huge secret? Dhan has been loyal to Gabi, but he might start to question if being involved with her is wise.
Gabi is a strong woman, but she needs her team to work on cases and function in her daily life. She will have to spend a lot of time and energy repairing her relationships with those she has hurt.
Now that Gabi has lost everyone she cares about (even Sir is gone from her house), she will not be in a good place when the show returns on October 3. Gabi is usually in a fragile emotional state, even if she seems confident. Can she recover from the events of the Season 1 finale?
She needs to rebuild her relationships with Lacey, Dhan, Margaret, Zeke, and her potential love interest, Mark. She must also avoid falling into whatever trap Sir has for her. Sir will not just forget about Gabi; their toxic connection is too strong. Whatever path Gabi takes next, it will be complicated and messy as Season 2 begins.
Season 1 of Found is available to stream on Peacock in the U.S. Season 2 will premiere on October 3 on NBC.
