Hollywood’s production houses have adopted many video games into motion pictures, anime, and TV shows, which have had varied runtimes and success. In 2023, we saw the release of Five Nights At Freddy’s.
The video game was created by Scott Cawthon. In the game, the players or participants are given the job of security guards, taking care of a rundown party just like Chuck E. Cheese.
The games did not look anything more than survive the night games, at least on paper. But if you have experienced the game, then you will understand that there are a lot of things happening in it, and the narrative is not linear in each of the video games.
The narrative is what makes the game an ideal pick for a movie adaptation. The movie conveniently follows the main points from the game, and the filmmakers also try to go upbeat a little here and there.
A security guy works at a kid’s pizzeria where some robots come alive, and a strange sense of fear creeps in, which is never-ending. Everything looks out of place, but a minor plot twist at the end of the movie puts everything into a good impression and increases the overall movie experience.
Movie’s Synopsis
The Five Nights at Freddy’s revolves around Mike Schmidt, played by Josh Hutcherson. He works as a security guard in a mall, and he is constantly haunted by the kidnap of his brother. He is traumatized by this incident, and it reflects on his job too.
He mistakes a father for a kidnapper when he is struggling with his kid. This is the reason why he lost his last job and is now working at Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza as a security guy. Freddy Fazbear Pizza is an old, dilapidated kid’s party place that was closed in the 80s.
As if ending at a haunted kids’ pizza place was not bad already, Mike is also fighting to get the custody of his sister, Abby, played by Piper Rubio, back. But his grief is always with him and is hindering his way. Mike relieves his childhood memories in hopes of getting a vivid new detail that can lead him to the kidnapper.
This makes him and his sister more distant despite being truly caring about her, and it makes the case stronger for his aunt to take Abby’s custody.
The creepiness that Mike had in the beginning slowly fades away as the scary animatronics look friendly, especially to Abby, and because of this, he starts bringing Abby to work.
The spirits of kids that have Freddy’s possession and other animatronics invade Mike’s dreams and give him an offer that he cannot deny.
They promise him that they will give him answers that will help him find out who kidnapped Garret. They even offered him that they would give Garret and his family back if he gave the animatronics to his sister, Abby.
Of course, Mike denies this crazy offer and wakes up in a strapped chair with a robot animatronic closing on him to tear his face apart.
Vanessa, played by Elizabeth Lali, is his friend. A local cop rescues him from there and tells the whole backstory about Freddy Fazbear’s Pizza. After knowing the whole story, the picture becomes clear for Mike as to who the real culprit actually is.
What went down at the end of Five Nights At Freddy’s?
There are many Easter eggs scattered throughout the whole movie that can be considered as a fun element for the fans or hints that there will be another part in the franchise. The yellow bunny dress that Alan is seen wearing at the end of the movie is a character of Springtap that makes its first appearance in the third part of the game.
Looking at this, one can argue that William will return in a sequel. Emma Tammi, director and Co-Writer, said in an interview that if they’re lucky and hit home with the first movie, they will definitely be able to continue the story in the second movie.
The character of Vanessa could be the negative character of the security guard from Five Nights At Freddy’s: Security Breach. In the first movie, she is seen as Mike’s pal, but her outlook can completely change when she wakes up in the hospital.
Then there’s also the plot of Garret and other children who were murdered by Afton. He has certainly killed more than the five spirits that were shown in the first movie, which could take the movie to different places.
