The characters in Fire Country have been on their best behavior for weeks, but it was only a matter of time before someone slipped. This time, it was Bode (Max Thieriot). He has not completely lost control, but there are warning signs.
The difficult decision he made last week still troubles him as the annual County Clash baseball game approaches. Rafael’s (Victor Andres Turgeon-Trelles) memory haunts him, along with painful memories of the game that ended his own baseball career. The visions of Rafael, combined with a lingering knee injury from the rock slide, put Bode in a difficult place mentally. Luke (Michael Trucco) tries to reach him, but the results are uncertain.
At the same time, Jake (Jordan Calloway) steps back into the dating scene, and Manny (Kevin Alejandro) loses a friend at Three Rock. Manny also struggles with his adjustment, and his future remains uncertain.

County Clash Brings Rivalries and Hard Truths
The County Clash baseball game was supposed to be a fun day with friendly competition. However, old rivalries turned it into something more intense.
The annual game between neighboring teams led to a dangerous prank, forcing Station 42 and Three Rock to rescue a young player trapped in a drainpipe. The boy, Nolan, was nervous about pitching and feared disappointing his strict coach, Drew Kimbro (Luke Humphrey).
Kimbro has a history with Bode. He caused the injury that ended Bode’s baseball dreams and contributed to his past struggles with painkillers.
When Bode and his team arrived at the scene, Kimbro had no hesitation in bringing up Bode’s past drug problems. Despite the tension, Bode managed to convince Kimbro to truly coach the frightened boy instead of pressuring him.
By the time Nolan was rescued, Kimbro had a newfound respect for Bode. The two almost fought on the baseball field earlier, but they found common ground. However, things took a dangerous turn when Kimbro offered Bode painkillers for his knee.
If Bode were in a better place, he would have immediately refused. Instead, he took the bag of pills, leaving us unsure of what he will do next. Later, Bode accepted Luke’s invitation to play catch and opened up about losing Rafael.
This showed that he wanted to deal with his emotions in a healthy way. However, until we find out what happened to those pills, it is hard to feel fully reassured. If Bode relapses, it will be a devastating setback, especially after everything Gabriela has already gone through this season.
Jake Finds a New Romantic Interest
Jake had a busy day, but not just with fire rescues. He also helped a young cheerleader who was glued inside a mascot costume as part of a rival school prank. This allowed him to meet her older sister, Violet (Nesta Cooper).
Jake was both charming and awkward as he tried to flirt with her. He even shared some of his emotional baggage, which made for a slightly uncomfortable but honest conversation.
Surprisingly, Violet understood where he was coming from. She had recently gone through a divorce and moved back in with her family. Like Jake, she was figuring out how to start over.
After gathering his courage, Jake asked for Violet’s number, and she agreed. There is real potential for a fresh romance in his life. So far, Jake has not had much luck in love, but maybe that is about to change.
Vince’s Past Relationship Creates Tension
Jake was not the only one dealing with romance. Vince (Billy Burke) had an unexpected encounter when his ex, Renée (Constance Zimmer), arrived for the game. Instead of feeling awkward, his wife, Sharon (Diane Farr), immediately bonded with Renée. The two women had similar interests and enjoyed discussing Vince’s past.
Vince was not happy about them spending time together, and he had good reason to worry. Renée accidentally revealed that Vince had proposed to her when they were teenagers. She turned him down, choosing to travel the world, while Vince eventually joined fire camp and met Sharon.
Hearing this made Sharon question whether she had been a rebound for Vince. However, Vince quickly reassured her. He told Sharon that she was never a second choice. If Renée had not rejected him, he would never have met his life’s love. Their love story remains one of the strongest on television.
Manny Faces a Tragic Loss
While Vince and Sharon strengthened their marriage, Manny faced one of his toughest days at Three Rock. One of the inmates, Birch (Jeff Goldstone), was feeling unwell. Manny wanted to send him to the infirmary, but Birch was afraid. He had recently gotten sober and worried that going back to prison for medical care would tempt him to relapse.
Manny convinced Eve (Jules Latimer) to give Birch ibuprofen and let him rest at camp. Unfortunately, Birch’s condition did not improve. He was scheduled for a prison transfer the next morning, and he felt betrayed. His final words to Manny were that he would never forgive him for “selling him out.”
Tragically, that was their last conversation. While Manny and the team were busy rescuing Nolan, Birch was found unresponsive in his bunk. They tried CPR, but it was too late. Birch passed away, leaving a heavy impact on Manny and the rest of the crew.
This loss will likely weigh on Manny for a long time. He has already been warned that one more mistake could send him back to prison. Now, he must be careful not to let grief or guilt affect his judgment.
Both Bode and Manny are in fragile emotional states as they move forward. It is hard to say if they will make the right choices, but one thing is certain—the drama in Fire Country is far from over.
