American black crime comedy series called Fargo is a show that is inspired by the 1996 classic comedy of the same name. Written by Noah Hawley, the series was first released to fans in 2014, with the directors of the 1996 Coen brothers as its executive producers.
The show brings fans new stories and characters with every season released, and almost all of them are always heavily inspired by the works of the Coen brothers. Initially only expected to be a ten-part series, Fargo has extended itself to a total of five seasons and is nowhere close to coming to an end.
Over the seasons, the show introduces us to a wide variety of characters, all dealing with a strange variety of crimes throughout different time periods. Despite the different characters, the show is set in the same universe, which is the only thing commonly shared in all five seasons of the show.
The fifth season takes us to the fall of 2019 in Minnesota and North Dakota, where a seemingly normal woman gets into trouble when her mysterious past catches up with her, throwing her into a bunch of legal problems. The leading lady of this anthology is actress Juno Temple, who plays the role of an apparently simple wife, Dorothy Lyon, from Scandia, Minnesota.
Other actors who are a part of this comedy include Jennifer Jason Leigh as Dorothy’s cold MIL, David Rysdahl as Dorothy’s easy-to-push-around husband, Wayne Lyon, Jon Hamm as a North Dakota sheriff, Roy Tillman, who has been after old Dorothy for a while now, and Joe Keery as Roy’s son, Gator Tillman from a long list of characters.
The show has managed to impress fans again with its humor that never falters and how the makers of the show manage to keep the quality of the show in its peak form. Created in a typical Fargo way, the show continues to be dramatic, entertaining, strange, slightly violent, and perfectly balanced between slapstick comedy and gruesome violence.
The show went into production in 2022, and we finally got to see the first episode premiere on November 21st, 2023. While you may be enjoying the ongoing season, you can continue reading till the end to find out more about the new show and where it was filmed.
Fargo Season 5 Filming Locations
Calgary, Alberta
By June of 2022, part of the new cast of the season had been scouted, and filming for the same began sometime in October 2022. While the plot of this fifth season is set in Scandia, Minnesota, an actual place, the filming for it was done mostly in and around Alberta.
To be more specific, the crew and actors involved in the show found themselves in Calgary, Alberta, where other seasons of the show were filmed, too. Most of the show has been shot in this Canadian province, which has, over the past few years, become a hotspot for moviemakers.
Other places where the show was filmed include Didsbury, the village of Beiseker, and High River. In Calgary, the French mansion where Dorothy’s mother-in-law was put up was spotted in rural Rocky View County, outside of Calgary province.
Fans were able to spot the Calgary Tower and the Olympic Plaza in some of the scenes of the show as well. Mor specific locations where the show might have been filmed have not been revealed, considering the season is still ongoing, and it could take away the surprise factor for fans, so it is difficult to guess where exactly some of the important scenes in the show were shot.
But what is confirmed is that the crew did not step outside of Canada for the filming process, which makes sense considering the fact that filming can be done in the area at a low cost, which is never a bad deal. The fifth season of the show plans on wrapping up sometime during January 2024, so make sure you tune in and catch the remaining episodes of the show!
