Recap
After a week, Julia eventually returns to The Nest in the opening scene of Extended Family’s third episode. Pitbull had some crises that she needed to handle on his opulent yacht. Trey accompanied her, for whatever reason, as it’s very common for independent contractors to accompany their fiancé to work. Jim feels calmed down.
For him, nothing is more draining than sarcasm—especially after two weeks of nonstop child care. Typically, the parents rotate weekly shifts watching the children at The Nest. But things aren’t quite right. On her trigonometry test, Grace received a C-. She also declared that studying mathematics is not something she is interested in.
A new video game has captured Jimmy Jr.’s attention. It has significantly increased his screen time. Still, “Stab the Neighbor”‘s violence presents a greater issue. Julia is also concerned that if her son plays the game for too long, he will become a sociopath.
All of this doesn’t disturb Jim in the slightest; all he wants to do is concentrate on the Swedish detective drama he has been putting off for the past week. He leaves the house right away, leaving Julia to handle the situation on her own. Julia unplugged the Wi-Fi to stop Jimmy Jr. from playing.
However, Jr. manages to get past it by paying $5 per hour to use a neighbor’s internet connection. Trey chooses to step in when nobody else can offer a workable answer. He takes the children to MIT to meet with Professor Davenport. That’s where Trey went to school.
Davenport will “inspire” the children to change, in his opinion. Things, however, do not proceed as planned. Davenport worries the children with his predictions of how climate change will wipe out future generations. Furthermore, he states that not much can be done right now to undo the harm.
The children are frightened rather than inspired by this, to the point where they turn into environmental warriors and forbid meat and other items made of petroleum from the house. Oh, and by making sure it’s cold enough by maintaining the thermostat at sixty.

Trey surprises Grace by getting her a reservation at Boston’s top sushi restaurant for her birthday. This accidentally offends Jim and throws off the family’s yearly tradition of dining at a red sauce restaurant.
