Escape the field is one of those thriller movies which you would want to see, but only once. It was released on April 30th, 2022, in the USA. The movie received average ratings from viewers and critics, but a thriller is a thriller, and the story bounds us to talk about it here. The film runs for about 90 minutes, and it’s all good.
Among the cast, the only ones I remember watching before were Theo Rossi (as Tyler) from Sons of Anarchy (2008), Army of the Dead (2021), and Luke Cage; he is a great actor but doesn’t get that much appreciation.
If you have watched Umbrella Academy, you would remember Jordan Claire Robbins (as Sam); she plays Grace, the robot mom in the series. Other than those two, Shane West plays Ryan, Julian Feder plays Ethan, Elena Juatco plays Denise, and Tahirah Sharif plays Cameron.
Six strangers wake up amid a cornfield, each with an item necessary for their survival, being hunted by something strange, and it’s not just the six of them. Though the movie ended, the game is still on, which lets us believe a second part might be on the way, but that’s for later. For the time being, we shall see what happened in the movie and how it ended.
Escape The Field Movie Recap
The movie begins with Sam waking up in the middle of a cornfield, gasping for air, and getting hold of a gun with a single bullet. Tyler finds her and calms her down; he has a pack of matches. While on the way ahead, they find Ryan with a Lamp, Denise with a Knife, and Ethan with a compass.
The group runs into an afraid Cameron, but Ryan finds it peculiar that she didn’t find anything near her. Night comes, and while they are resting, a man in a suit arrives, counting from one to six, and as they are about to talk to him, something attacks from behind, Ryan runs after the thing, Tyler follows, while Denise and Cameron break away.

Cameron and Denise take time for nature’s call, but Ryan finds Cameron drinking water, which is what she finds.
While they are confronting her, Denise is attacked, but the group has to move forward. However, they see that they are back to square one. But this time, Sam figures out the main purpose of the tools, which was to lead them to a clue and help open it.
There is some disagreement, but everyone follows Sam’s lead to return to the tree; as Ryan starts moving, he is shot with an injection by the scarecrow. After some time, the red liquid starts taking effect, and Ryan starts losing it, and Ryan opens up to Sam about his mission to Afghanistan and about the red liquid.
With the help of the lamp, they figure out the map on the tree, but Tyler gets tapped by the strange object and is hurt. On the other hand, Cameron kills Ethan in the heat of the time, and Ryan starts turning into something sinister.
Sam and Tyler find another scarecrow, but this time they find a control panel attached to it, and on entering a certain 0 and 1 pattern, a pathway opens in the field. Upon following the path, they find a fiber structure that shows them the possible trap positions. Sam leaves a hurt Tyler in the container and proceeds to find the next solution. On the way, she sees Ryan, red-eyed and covered with mud.
Escape The Field Ending Explained
Sam sees a stabbed Ethan and walks ahead to help him but is attacked by the mutated hunter, but Ryan walks in to capture him, and a fight starts. Ryan almost kills the hunter but gets caught in one of the traps. Sam reaches Tyler with the knife and inserts it into the machine.
They both pull down the lever, but to no avail. Their happiness doesn’t last. We finally see a camera view, telling us that someone is watching. As soon as Sam is about to burn the machine, the mutated hunter comes along and stabs Tyler, and starts chasing Sam. He stabs her.
But Sam lights him on fire using the matches, pushes him inside the container, and locks it. Toward the end, we see Sam die outside the container, and a running Cameron finds six strangers and starts saying, “it’s repeating.” Before they can talk to her, Ryan drags her and kills her, explaining that everything will repeat in a similar manner.
