Nintendo Switch 2’s release of Elden Ring coincided with a major rise for the action RPG on the US best-selling games chart. According to August 2026 sales data shared by Circana analyst Mat Piscatella on Bluesky, Elden Ring climbed from No. 41 in July to No. 7 in August.
The rankings cover physical and full-game digital dollar sales, excluding mobile games and digital add-on content. The Switch 2 version arrived during the August tracking period, providing a timely explanation for the game’s renewed chart presence, although the figures do not establish how much of the increase came from that release alone.
NBA 2K27 Leads August’s US Game Sales
NBA 2K27 claimed first place in August, followed by Madden NFL 27 at No. 2. Marvel Tokon: Fighting Souls secured third place, while EA’s Kickoff Bundle (2026) and Star Wars: Zero Company rounded out the top five.
Microsoft’s Halo: Campaign Evolved ranked sixth, immediately ahead of Elden Ring. Big Walk landed at No. 8, with Nintendo’s Mario Kart World and Splatoon Raiders completing the top 10.

The results highlight a competitive month for new releases, with six new games appearing in August’s top 10, according to Piscatella’s Circana summary.
Elden Ring’s jump was one of August’s biggest ranking changes, while NBA 2K27 also made an immediate impact after launching in early access on August 26. The basketball game reached No. 3 on the 2026 year-to-date chart despite having only recently entered the market.
For the year so far, Resident Evil Requiem leads the US sales rankings, followed by 007 First Light. NBA 2K27 sits third, ahead of MLB The Show 26 and Crimson Desert.
