There are a lot of romantic comedies in anime, and we never tire of them. Romance and comedy go so well together that they are like bread and cheese. The reason why romcom anime are so good is that love can happen between strikingly different people and that they get placed in some bizarre and hilarious situations.
It is beautiful to see how their differences meld together and complement each other perfectly. It is usually not your boring, straightforward love story but instead, you get a tale that has both ups and downs, imperfections, and delightfully comic moments. And, of course, true love.
Don’t toy with me and Miss Nagatoro is a Japanese manga by Nanashi. This manga was published in Kodansha‘s Magazine Pocket in the year 2017. The anime adaptation is by Telecom Animation Film, and the second season is by OLM Inc. The director of the series is Hirokazu Hanai, while the character design is by Misaki Suzuki.
For all the newcomers, the plot of the story goes like this. Hayase Nagatoro and Naoto Hachioji study in the same high school, Kazehaya High School. The former is a first-year student, while the latter is in his second year. Naoto has a quiet and shy personality but still catches the attention of the outspoken Hayase. And from the moment he falls under Hayase’s radar, there is no end to her teasing him.
Hayase and her close friends tease him every day until he is reduced to tears, and sometimes the teasing even gets a flirtatious nature. Slowly but surely, Naoto begins to come out of his shell, and the two high schoolers start to develop deep feelings for each other.
Hayase’s friends, who formerly only liked bullying and making fun of Naoto, see their blossoming love and turn out to be their biggest supporters by coming up with strategies to bring them closer.
Don’t Toy With Me, Miss Nagatoro Season 1 Finale Recap
Here’s how season 1 ended. A cultural festival is taking place at Naoto and Hayase’s high school. Naoto was allowed to showcase his artwork at the festival. Gamo, who was one of Hayase’s friends, came up with an idea to wreck Naoto’s competitor, the President’s painting so that Naoto could win the competition. But Naoto disagreed, stating that he wanted to win the competition without any foul play.
However, the President’s painting received backlash from the student council as they thought it was immoral and did not want to allow it to showcase in the competition. But Naoto overheard the student council’s conversation and decided to support the President, saying that every artist had the right to express themselves through their art.
Eventually, they allowed the President to take part in the competition but were disqualified and so Naoto claimed victory, and hence, the art club could continue. Because the President lost, she had to wear a bunny costume as punishment. Senpai, as Hayase teasingly calls him, invites Hayase to the closing event. The very next day, Senpai sketched Hayase beautifully, and he received a kiss from her for his work.
