Crimson Desert’s latest update is shifting the tone of the game in a surprising direction. Patch 1.12.00, now rolling out across PC and consoles, introduces outdoor housing customization, expands crafting with dozens of new items, and improves load times—marking a notable evolution for the open-world action RPG.

According to the official Crimson Desert patch notes, the update’s headline feature allows players to “decorate the area outside your house,” opening up new creative possibilities beyond interior customization. This change alone significantly alters how players interact with the game’s world, bringing it closer to life-simulation mechanics rarely seen in traditional action RPGs.

Outdoor Housing Finally Arrives in Crimson Desert

The biggest addition in Patch 1.12 is the ability to fully customize outdoor spaces. Previously, housing features were limited in scope, but players can now design and decorate the areas surrounding their homes, effectively extending personal expression into the open world.

To support this system, Pearl Abyss has introduced 58 new items, including fountains, wells, lighting fixtures, carpets, and decorative objects. These additions allow players to build unique environments tailored to their style, whether that means a cozy settlement or a more elaborate showcase.

The update also adds two new crafting tools—a Workstation and a Loom—which are required to create many of these items. As noted in the patch details, these tools can be found in locations such as Greymane Camp and Hernand Tailor’s Shop, integrating the feature into the broader game world rather than isolating it.

Industry coverage has pointed out how this feature pushes Crimson Desert toward a more relaxed gameplay loop. As one report observed, the update finally lets players “decorate the area outside your house,” reinforcing comparisons to cozy life-sim experiences.

Crafting System Expansion Deepens Gameplay

The outdoor housing feature is closely tied to an expanded crafting system. Players can obtain crafting manuals through multiple in-game activities, including shops, claw machines, missions, and challenge-based rewards like the Orb Roll.

This design encourages exploration and engagement with different systems rather than limiting progression to a single path. It also ensures that customization remains an active gameplay goal rather than a passive feature.

Alongside housing, the patch introduces new gear, including armor sets and accessories, while enhancing playable characters like Damiane and Oongka. These characters can now equip Visiones, read memories, and even ride the dragon Blackstar—changes that improve their utility in exploration and combat.

Performance Improvements Address Player Feedback

Beyond new content, Patch 1.12 also focuses heavily on performance and quality-of-life improvements. One of the most notable changes is reduced loading times, achieved through optimization of the game’s loading process.

The update also ensures that character loading screens appear consistently, even when switching to characters like Oongka or Damiane. This seemingly small adjustment helps create a smoother and more cohesive gameplay experience.

Additional improvements include better UI clarity, refined controls, and fixes for numerous bugs affecting combat, quests, and world interactions. From minimap visibility issues to mount-related performance drops, the patch addresses a wide range of player-reported concerns.
